Like others, I really like discussing politics – but not at church. I’m there to worship, learn the Gospel and organize ways to help others – not argue about political topics. Sometimes those things intermingle naturally, since the Gospel really has a very strong social component, but I want those discussions focused in only those lessons where they are the central issue. Well, occasionally I do put a different spin on things. When we were talking about honesty once, someone brought up illegal downloads and piracy, and I pointed out that the record/film companies often charge too much for DVDs, cinema entry etc, and that lesser known bands get paid too little. I pointed out that the Bible says it is a sin to defraud laborers of their wages (or to pay them too little).
