I think I have a little bit of this problem. Trying to cut the time I spend online, but it is hard because so much is done with technology these days. Last Tuesday I was trying to pay for groceries at Wal-Mart and my card too Link card took forever to process. The manger finally helped the woman cashier get the processing taken care of. Afterwards I told her if technology completely broke down, most people would be in trouble. By the way, I wonder if some people have online personas. I do – I’m a lot more forthright on here. I’m more shy in real life and possibly less combative too.
I have been compulsively checking this site ever since I found it a few weeks ago. I work from home and all my work is done on the computer and most of it online. The temptation to skip over to the boards is so tempting, and I admit I’ve even put off work to do it. For me, I’ve felt so alone with my faith struggles for a lot of years, and suddenly finding like-minded people that I can open up to has been so liberating and exciting. Maybe in a while it will wear off a bit and I’ll be able to moderate myself better. As many of the old-timers here know, I have cut back my social media participation over the past year. I wouldn’t say I had an “addiction” by any clinical definition. But my involvement in various causes and the production of podcasts, etc. was having a negative impact on my family. I was spending too much time on it. But yeah … I know that feeling about finding this whole new world of internet Mormons (of all views and levels of belief), and binge-consuming all the openness and community. The internet is my home Ward.
I think there are a lot of us out there. Maybe we need some kinds of signs and tokens to identify each other?
