I read through 2/3 of it. Wow, I don’t know. I’m sure he needs more than we can offer. I wasn’t sure what to do with it.

It’s why I didn’t approve it. I want to read everyone else’s reaction.

My instinct is to ask him privately if he will rewrite it without the church court details – just a mention that he was disfellowshipped.

What do all of you think?

well i think you’re right it is more than we can help him with. However, I actually liked his intro. i thought it kind of read like a disjointed novel and I was sincerely touched by his courage and the progress he has made in not being upset with those who held a court for him. I vote we leave it as it was very touching I thought.

There are way too many personal details there. I really think his mental health professional should approve his participation here. I want to help, but I think he needs much more help than any of us are equipped to dole out.

I think it’s OK. I have to wonder – it seems he is now diagnosed as bi-polar with access to meds. I think he has a point about the impact of mental illness like bi-polar disorder on one’s ability to handle a church court. My BIL was ex’d over something he said when he was refusing to take his meds (he is also bi-polar). Now, should he have been ex’d? Maybe. It was a very strange situation. Those with bi-polar disorder suffer from paranoia and often refuse to take their meds as a result of the paranoia which spirals from there.

Actually when I first read it, I thought I might actually know him, but having read the whole thing I am not so sure. There was a guy who used to work for me who had very similar issues. I eventually had to fire him because he was so erratic. His wife did leave him and they had kids. He had slipped back into alcoholism and prescription drug abuse. He was completely out of control at the time. That was probably 5+ years ago when I fired him. Maybe it’s just a Utah County thing. ;)

I’m going to approve it, with a statement at the end asking everyone to not comment on the disciplinary court aspect – since there is another thread that addresses that exact topic directly.

Let’s keep an eye on it.
