I don’t recall who I may have told or not told in the past about my current job situation. In January we were notified that the facility I currently work at will close next January. That shut down process is in full swing, and we haven’t had residents since July. We were told none of us would be let go. So I’m at the point where I am about to be transferred to a different facility, which is fine with me and is a shorter commute. However, it’s a larger and busier facility which will afford me less goof off time and perhaps more scrutiny. I’m sure I will have time to check in and help out here, but probably a little less than I have become accustomed to. I was not expecting the transfer until closer to the shutdown time, perhaps after Thanksgiving or more likely after Christmas – but it looks like it may happen as early as next week. Just so you all know.

Overall, this is positive for me and in addition to the shorter commute/more home time it is likely to lead to a promotion which will positively affect my projected retirement in 4-5 years. It is a win-win for me and the agency/facility.

    Wonderful DJ.

I am really happy for you.

So in 4 or 5 years we will be moving you to full time status around here, right? 😆

    🙂

Sometimes I do spend quite a bit of time here. ironically I don’t have social media because I spent too much time there (and I like more privacy). Since my wife can’t retire when I do, it’s likely if we’re all still here I will be around often then. I’m not going anywhere now either, I just might not have quite as much time as I have had of late.

A shorter commute, potential to earn more money, and job security. Good news!

This next comment could just as easily go into the Question about Faces East/emeritus thread, maybe it’s more suited for there, but when that thread was new this thought crossed my mind…

Where are we on the life cycle of StayLDS?

Maybe that deserves its own thread for visibility and to keep this thread more on topic.

Maybe it does deserve its own thread. I’d really hate to see us fall by the wayside because I think it has done good and still has plenty of good to do. It has been pretty dead here of late but we also got a little influx of new members as we tend to at GC time. My only point in this thread was to let people know that a) my job situation has turned out well (although I am cognizant of the potential velociraptor in the greener grass) and b) my time/access here may be a bit more limited.

Because of COVID (and an outbreak at the new facility) my start date there has been moved until the end of the month.

Public as in here or on the open forum?

We could maybe do a preliminary private discussion, then open up a new discussion in the main forums if we think it’s necessary.

I’m not opposed to an open discussion, I just wanted to be sure I was understanding what the proposal is. I’m also not opposed to having a discussion here, then one openly, perhaps with “we’ve had some discussion and would like your input.”

on thing that makes it hard to gauge on the lifecycle is that this covid pandemic is “unprecedented” and messes up the trend.

Is there some sort of metric of participation over the years that could give us a nice lifecycle trend?

COVID activity has delayed the start at my new position until at least after Thanksgiving. 🙄

    Congratulations!

I think a lifecycle discussion is a good idea.
