Each case is individual; simply put, Dehlin is not McMurrin.

I have no idea what Pres. McKay would have done in this case, since, as DJ said, this case is very different than that one in some important ways.

Does a vigil of approx 100 people help or hurt his cause?

A vigil of 100 is NOTHING in comparison to this latest threat.

    anonymous threatens LDS.ORG

When these guys are determined to really give it to someone, they really can do some damage. Now I don’t think LDS.ORG contains much that they can really leak to wikileaks or anything like that and from what I recall, the financial stuff is NOT managed within LDS.ORG.

This is certain to raise the publicity of the Dehlin actions.

The funny thing (maybe not) is that John Dehlin’s brother used to be the head of LDS IT. So he helped setup the current LDS.ORG website.

I believe that was satire. The first source of that story is apparently the Beehive Bugle.

Yeah, the BCC one was pretty funny. I particularly liked the idea that there is a vault of apostle selfies holding the Sword of Laban.

I’m not surprised by the decision…

Nor am I, and apparently nor is John. You’ll note no mention of gay rights or OW.

A cause is cited as spreading falsehoods — a broad term that could encompass a lot of things. Also interesting how John said it’s time to stop harping on the same old scripts. That part surprised me. To me, that validates the excommunication somewhat — as it seems to have encouraged less vocalizing — and I didn’t expect John to provide that kind of validation.

So, his plan is to now expand what he has learned about faith crisis to people of all faiths. I feel for his family. This must be difficult for them now.

minor curiosity. the article mentions that those excommunicated cannot partake of the sacrament.

Do we not permit everyone to partake of the sacrament including children and investigators? Why make an exclusion for the excommunicated?

Interesting question. I don’t have an answer, but I can’t see how they can force someone to NOT take it if they attend. My son, who isn’t a member, takes the sacrament and nobody says anything. Although he did try and help the teachers clean up sacrament and was told not to :?: .
