GuestHi All, I am cleaning my house today and feeling thoughtful as I listened to a YouTube podcast of John Dehlin talking about Myths and Truths of the reasons faithful members leave Mormonism. Right after the podcast, I become aware of the LDS press conference so I then listen to that. I am now shaking my head at the controversy and irony of all of this. I don’t always agree with John Dehlin but I am grateful for his efforts in his mormonstories.com website as well as courage to speak out and allow others to do the same. I am grateful for the organization of this website that allows all of us to come and talk openly and honestly whether we are venting or seeking wisdom, acceptance, validation or support. I feel “safe” hiding behind my screen name because I would be afraid for possible friends, family (
with the exception of you, brother Newlight ;o)or ward members misunderstanding me if I were to reveal my identity as well as possible church repercussions as I continue to move forward in my own faith journey. I am sorry for the things I have learned about my beloved religion that has caused me to feel betrayed, angered and disappointed. I still love many parts of my religion that I hold dear – values and spiritual experiences, service and support. I wish I could go to church and talk more openly about the issues I see discussed here but of course, we all know how troublesome that would be and I have no desire to shake others beliefs or “stir the pot” or be negative, so I again am glad I am able to come here to feel and express that kind of honesty and support and friendship. I look to my Savior and the candor of his life and believe following his example to be the greatest constant and stability I can follow in my own life. I don’t read in the scriptures of him tossing others away but instead reminding the priests and people of his time to exercise forgiveness, love and acceptance as he tells others to go and sin no more. That’s it! The definition of charity has far more meaning to me now than ever before.
I don’t know if this really makes much sense to any of you, but I feel better just writing it! ;o) Have a great day!

GuestThe part about cleaning your house doesn’t make much sense to me , but the rest – YES – it makes sense.
If I was single I would be publicly pushing for more change and discussion. I realize it could be wimpy, but I do hold back not to rock the boat much as it really bothers my wife.
I have gotten past the anger part of my FC, but I still very much desire some changes in the church. I do find it frustrating that changes feel like tons of pressure make a fraction of an inch of change. Then many say “look how great our leaders are and all those incorrectly pushing for change are just going about things the wrong way”. This is when it seems so obvious it was the pressure that caused the change! grrrr

Yes! It would be nice to see a little more integrity and courage…..making those changes in the first place because it is the right thing to do!

I get the impression over the years that if church leaders feel there is social pressure they will often actually resist more as not to come off as appearing to bow to social pressure. Kind of a “I will show them who is the boss!” Oh so productive – NOT. -
