Judith Viorst (of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day fame) has written a few unbelievably insightful books.

One is called Necessary Losses, the premise being that we ‘grow and change through the losses that are an inevitable and necessary part of life.’ Chapters bridge many subjects, from losing our sense of entitlement, our youth, our unrealistic dreams, unrealistic expectations, and then eventually our health, our lives.

The idea is that accepting these losses as necessary/inevitable is the ONLY path to peace/growth. This is so very relevant when it comes to our wrestle with faith/doubt. There is a casting away of the old (our illusions) and the pain of that loss. Then there is the peace of acceptance. Finally, there is the openness to the new.

    Excellent book, guys. No kidding.

That sounds very Buddhist-like. If we look at loss like suffering, peace comes not by eliminating them, but by accepting them and learning to deal with them.

Might have to read it. I have always believed we hang on to things to long that we should not. Whether it is something in this life or life itself sometimes we need to learn to move on.

Sounds like an excellent book – and I agree 100% with what you described.
