Many, many of us (at least in my area) felt the
exact. same. way. each time Obama was elected.
We were crushed and we felt betrayed.
It was hard to see their gloating faces when they walked into church. It was hard to hear them speak over the pulpit.
We were disgusted.
The difference is that Obama didn’t threaten to take away your human rights. Obama didn’t pledge to sign a bill that makes it explicitly legal to discriminate against you. Trump did.November 30, 2016 at 6:08 am #315829Anonymous

In a way yes and in a way no.
Obama ran on a promise to “fundamentally change” America. “Hope and Change” had just as fearful concerns for conservatives as Trumps bombastic statements to many groups (including yours). The fears are identical. I may not seem that way because specifics were used by Trump, but the implied generalities (or at least the conservative media’s take on them) created the same bitter taste for them as Trump feels to others.
We have reached a deeply painful spot in this American Experiment. It didn’t just happen during this election. It really began to take shape during the Gore/Bush post election.
However, we as individuals are more capable at uniting a nation than some person who gets elected. It will take some work but we can do it.

GuestRomney lost specifically because millions of evangelical Christians refused to vote for a Mormon and stayed home instead. Yes, blue collar white people couldn’t relate to him, but that is because he didn’t pander to their fears and concerns like Trump did. It had nothing to do, fundamentally, with Mormonism being seen as snobby. It was about Mormonism being seen as a cult.

There are a number of issues & discussions that I disagree agree with. Politics is just one issue. Sometimes I raise my hand in class & give the opposing view or catch someone in the hall & give my opinion.
I usually try to do it constructively & other times I just can’t. On this forum, we sometimes have disagreements too.
Aren’t you glad that we don’t have the same viewpoint or position on all issues? For me, that is the definition of hell.
