I just had a thought: what if the inclusion of all the talk about the Law of Moses in the BoM is intended to help modern church members avoid turning the restored gospel into a legal code?

I like it, although I haven’t thought about it enough to know if I agree with it. 🙂

Fwiw, for quite a while I have viewed the history of the Church as a modern reenactment of “The Restoration of All Things” – meaning that I have seen something akin to an evolutionary process that models religious history.

A sort of spiritual explosion (Big Bang) started it all – taking chaos and starting to organize it into a habitable formation, followed by an Old Testament-like isolation and “kingdom building” (the establishment of a new “people”), followed by a long integration into “the world”, followed by a New Testament-like shift in emphasis to principles over form as the composition of “the chosen people” morphed to include “others”. I see us in the early but not beginning stages of that shift and expansion.
