GuestToday I got a survey from the Church, asking my opinion about a wide range of topics. Some of the questions dealt with religious & spiritual views & opinions.
Other questions dealt with my views about education, preparedness & practical issues.
It took about 30 minutes to complete.
They are willing to pay me for my efforts with a gift card (a nominal amount).
This is the first time I’ve been asked by the church about my opinions.
Does anyone know anything about it?
I’m assuming it’s confidential but you never know.
Just curious.

Dear LDS Church Member,
The Church is conducting a survey of member perceptions and attitudes towards religious participation. This survey should take about 20-30 minutes to complete. You will be compensated for your time with an Amazon gift card (e-cards will be sent to all participants who complete the survey). We value the responses of all members, regardless of your current level of activity. Please click the link below to access the survey. Please do not send this link to other members.

The Correlation Research Division is the only group authorized by the Brethren to conduct research for the Church. As instructed in Handbook 2, section 21.1.35, βThe only authorized research agency of the Church is the Correlation Research Division of the Correlation Department. Representatives of this division use questionnaires and interviews to obtain information on issues of concern to General Authorities.β
If you have any questions about this research effort, please contact James Glenn of the Correlation Research Division at Church headquarters:

GuestI think the church does these every now and again. They’re not unheard of. March 28, 2018 at 3:54 am #327521Anonymous
GuestWhat were the questions like? Even though the Church would NEVER do it, I’d be interested to learn the results of the study and planned course of action. “Question #1. Will you pay tithing on your compensatory gift card?”

GuestWow an Amazon Card. Nice. I assumed Deseret Book. I would take it. You just never know if they will use it productively. March 28, 2018 at 12:25 pm #327524Anonymous

The questions were typical survey language:
– Age
– How do you identify yourself religiously?
– Would you describe yourself as religious your entire life? Or was there a moment when you became religious?
– Do you believe service is an important element of your belief? How do you “serve” others?
– How important are the religious traditions of your faith?
– To what degree do you follow the leadership of your faith?
My answer to question #1 is yes. But, I didn’t go into detail how my tithe is calculated.

I’d take Deseret Book too though.

GuestThat’s pretty bold, recognizing that someone can be on the Church records but identify as belonging to a different religion. I hope it wasn’t too broad. March 28, 2018 at 5:14 pm #327527Anonymous
GuestI am glad that they care enough to ask the questions. March 28, 2018 at 6:44 pm #327528Anonymous
GuestI’m not sure where they got my name. If it came from FamilySearch (for example) the “net” would include non-members as well as members.
