Five years ago just after reading about the the Tsunami that swept over Indonesia, I remember reading an article how within the first day or two after it hit, the Church had planes in the air with emergency supplies. I was amazed at the fast response. They also promised they were there to stay. The accompanying article documents the fulfillment of that promise. Enjoy it and shed a few tears with me in appreciation

PS. I also read recently where President Monson announce he was adding a 4th leg to the mission statement of the Church. Adding to tending to the members, saving the dead, and missionary work, he added helping the needy. As much as I gripe about what is wrong with the Church, I can’t help but call attention to what they do that is so right.

Merry Christmas to all, and a very happy new year, too.

I was really happy when I read that article. This new 4th purpose is a great step outward in the Church in my opinion. It is something I can really get behind. I also think it is a “purpose” that more fringe members (like many of us) can integrate into to serve together.

I’ve thought for many years that we, as a Church, would open up a lot of success by focusing more on SHOWING people true religion than trying to just convince them that we are the “true” religion.
