GuestI had to go back to look at the Essay on Race and the Priesthood, and came across some linked videos that the Church has added in support of distancing ourselves further and further from the Ban and fully embracing diversity. Very worth the time. It’s obvious to me that the intended audience of this group of videos is the members of the Church, to remind them. There are some great messages here. There is discussion of addressing intolerance within the culture of the Church. There’s a reference to “an old gospel song”. One of the videos, TWICE, sets being a follower of Christ in a more elevated position than being Mormon.

From the video:
“I came to see myself, not as a black Mormon, but as a disciple of Christ who is black.”

Guest:clap:   I still have issues with the limited release of the essays and limited explanation to the broader membership of the purpose of the essays, but seeing additional work soothes my heart a bit.

GuestI love this. Thank you for sharing. The new material is being integrated into the Church’s manuals. It will be wonderful when that is accomplished fully.

GuestI just found a reminder that was burried in my inbox to watch these (can’t easily watch videos while at the office). So almost 10 months later I get around to watching these. They are good. I do have some heartburn on the one labeled, “Roll Up Our Sleeves” that covers a mixed race marriage. It is just hard to watch that and not have issue with the church knowing that the prophet in my lifetime was saying that mixed race marriages were not right and within my parents life there were prophets saying it was absolutely wrong and should not happen (I won’t even bring up what Brigham Young said about the topic).
