GuestI wrote about Ash Wednesday I thought I would follow it up with Lent, kindly LDS Living Magazine/Blog did it for me.http://forum.staylds.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6303 ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://forum.staylds.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6303 http://ldsliving.com/story/78067-6-ways-mormons-can-enjoy-the-spirit-of-lent ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://ldsliving.com/story/78067-6-ways-mormons-can-enjoy-the-spirit-of-lent I love getting prepped for Christmas, yet in our religion we often don’t prep (or even celebrate) Easter. Plenty of wards just give a passing nod to it. Anyway, maybe try one of these ideas for fun. Or look into a Passover Experience. though it isn’t Christ connected, it was a big part of Christ’s life.

GuestAbout 13 years ago I was introduced to the idea that “fasting” during lent referred to the giving up of something. It didn’t mean much until I heard a sermon by an episcopal priest where she talked about fasting by giving up hopelessness or despair or being judgmental. To me that seems better than giving up chocolate or such like. Harder to do be better in the long run. March 5, 2015 at 7:54 pm #295902Anonymous
Guestmom3, Love it. I do wish that the LDS Church put more emphasis on Easter and any emphasis at all on Palm Sunday/Holy Week. My wife and I were talking just the other day of maybe doing something for Lent (as in give up something), but, and I’m exposing my weaknesses here a bit, but I couldn’t come up with anything I wanted to give up just now
😳 I do feel a little tough that Easter and General Conference fall on the same day this year. It’s sad that we won’t even take the Sacrament on the very day that calls for the celebration of “the indescribable gift” (2 Corinthians 9:15).

Me, too. I never like it when GC falls on Easter (except I get to stay home that day). A few of the GAs will make mention of the day, a couple might even have an Easter related address. The choir will likely sing some Easter songs. The rest won’t talk about it at all. On the other hand, I did once attend a ward where no mention of Easter was made on Easter – the talks were about tithing or some such nonsense. I was deeply saddened by that. I have for years had my own celebration of Easter (mostly centered on scripture reading and pondering), and will do so again this year.

GuestDark Jedi and On Own Now – Easter-lack in our faith is huge gripe for me. I too have sat in wards where it didn’t get mentioned and I have never fully understood why we didn’t create religious traditions around it. One idea I did read for Lent was about not just giving up something, but taking extra time or the time you have if you gave up TV or something, was to create with it. Read more, practice an instrument, learn a skill – kind of a parable of the talents thing. I am trying that one.
