Unless you can pull in some material that classes have never heard before, that augments what they already know, the lesson can become one of toleration for some of them. But then, you are sometimes skating on thin ice. We are told not to pull in materials that are not approved, yet the scriptures tell us to learn from the “best books”. Inconsistent…and I think it impedes progress toward a Sunday experience that is full of interesting lessons that keep people coming back.
The GAs quote from great works of literature all the time. Not a GC goes by when there are not several such quotes. I don’t think that’s what is being referenced when we are advised to stick with approved materials.

I pulled in “original research” based on the introduction threads on this site, and others. Without naming the site….they were interested in what I was reading. Also excerpts from our church historians of the past. If I had time, I would have played the one of Elder Snow, the church historian (current?) from 2013. I think they would have found it interesting.
