Okay, I’m making this post extra long so that the women get some posting credit from Cwald. 😆

    Props to observant! Great post.

My husband went through this struggle with me but decided to have faith and he believes the church is true. I told my three older married daughters of my struggles but I wish I hadn’t gotten so specific about the history of the church. I have told close friends because they are my friends. I have been lucky because they support me and love me anyway. I ended up telling the Bishop because he called me to be R.S. President and he asked for the specifics why I did not believe the church was the only true church. And I told him. He was very kind and asked me what kind of callings I would accept. I told the Stake President because I was in the R.S. Stake Presidency. He was also very kind and told me that everyone has struggles in life and this is mine. I know that not all bishops or stake presidents are like that but I wasn’t sure how they would react but I didn’t care. I felt the need to be totally honest. I can’t keep things locked inside. I think that everyone is different and needs to pray and decide for themselves. If someone were to ask me about my testimony of the church I would be honest and tell them. I’m tired of hiding the person I am and what I believe. This is just what has worked for me.

my kind hearted always loving mom told him he will be going to hell because of this decision. He has sense gotten married, but not in the temple. Last year he found out that he has several spots of skin cancer that have been removed. Twice now my mom has said that if he was an active member and wore his garments he wouldn’t have cancer. Even though most of the spots that needed to be removed were on his feet. My dad is as dogmatic as it gets. But I also need to get over my feelings of hurt. Of feeling deceived.

^^ This is why you need therapy. Not because the Church, like all religions, is based on a mythical and exaggerated narrative.

Sorry to be so blunt. I have parent issues too, but not like that… 😯 😯 😯 I’m sorry you have to tear your soul from that dysfunctional and unhealthy worldview.

You aren’t going to find a therapist that will help you regain a religious testimony, especially not of things that don’t make sense to you. It’s OK. Some things don’t make sense … BECAUSE THEY ARE WRONG!!! The Church is true, it is false, it is meaningless all at the same time.

-God loves us = probably true, why not …

-We should be more like Jesus = probably a good idea

-Mormons have the corner on truth = meh, sounds like a marketing idea, but there is truth to be found or experienced. Take what works.

-God will give you skin cancer to punish you for not wearing garments = BULLSHIT!!!! beeep beeeep warning warning (sirens going off as the BS detector triggers)

We may not be trained therapists … but we ARE free 😆 So welcome to it! Glad to have you along for the ride on the crazy train.

I really like what Brian said and I have struggled with the some of the same things a little bit. I live not too far from Gilbert that I have seen a little. I don’t see him a lot because he charges way too much and no insurance. Last year it was 80. This year he is charging 90. He raised the price 10 bucks for cost of living! I have such a hard time spending that much money for one hour so I go about once a month. The counselor I saw was really nice and LDS. I was pretty scared I would offend him but I never did. I really liked him and he seemed to be very understanding. I remember one thing he said was that I just need to pray and do what I felt was right for me and not worry about what other people want me to do in regards to church activity and stuff like that. This guy is in Gilbert and here is his contact info..

    Website:

    http://www.rbeazer.com

    His name is Russell Beazer

    Phone: 480-649-6499

Ps. he was in bishopric but not a bishop for a short time

Also, I have learned from counseling that sometimes you pay a lot of money for the same things your friends might have said but you didn’t listen that close cause money wasn’t on the line. I really hope you have insurance! Also, if not this counselor might be able to help you with out insurance but email me to ask how and then I will give details.
