Amen!!! I couldn’t agree with this more. I believe status and education are WAY over-emphasized. And I have a master’s degree, so I’m not just anti-education. I just think there is too much focus on education, for education’s sake.

My son, who was 8 at the time this happened, was talking with my dad about school. My dad said he needs to get good grades if he wants to go to the college that he wants. So, my son said that he doesn’t want to go to college. My dad said that if he doesn’t go to college, he’ll end up working as a mechanic or a plumber. I couldn’t resist, and I said, “Or a carpenter?” My dad got the point and changed the subject. My point is that there is so much emphasis on what people DO, we forget to talk about what’s really important: How do you treat other people?
