I stumbled across this article on Rational Faiths.

    http://rationalfaiths.com/mormonism-made-still-true/” class=”bbcode_url”>http://rationalfaiths.com/mormonism-made-still-true/

I absolutely love it. This really embodies what I feel about the Church, and religion in general. Here are the cliff’s notes.

The author took his kids to see the Lego movie.

    SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The main character in the movie finds that he is at the center of a prophecy to save the Lego people. He ends up meeting the prophet who made the prophecy that he is supposedly fulfilling. The prophet ends up confessing to him that the prophecy is made up right before he dies.

The hero of the movie decides to still press forward, and in the end is an integral part of saving the day.

    END SPOILERS

I really loved this movie, and I took my kids to see it as well. I was singing “everything is awesome” for the next month. The movie didn’t hit me the same way it hit the author of this article, but I loved the authors perspective and feel that it fits me very well.

When I read the title of the thread and before even clicking I thought, I’m going to say something about The Lego Movie.

The first time I watched The Lego Movie I had all the characters’ real life counterparts worked out in my head. The associations were instant. I couldn’t avoid making the connections to my faith journey.

Thanks for sharing! I haven’t had a desire to see the Lego movie, but now maybe I will!

As long as you can handle, “Everything is Awesome”, you’ll be fine.

I hear lots of “EVERYTHING about the gospel is AWESOME!” At church all the time.

This is yet another reason that the movie is so applicable.

Some of the deepest and thought provoking movies I enjoy are animated children’s movies.

Zootopia is certainly thought provoking if you attempt to apply the moral of the story to today. I can’t help but think it is a pro-gay theme. I am not sure if my wife had that thought when we watched it with the grandkids.

I wonder if membership in the church is right for people at certain times in their lives, so they get revelation that convinces them to join. I think that is what happened in my case. But now, it serves no real benefit other than to my family members. If single and without family, I don’t see what use it is to me…

So, that is how it can be “true” and made up at the same time. God looks at available choices for people who want religion in their life, and then directs them in the right direction based on available choices. He looks at the net good belonging will achieve, and then makes a decision about whether to pour out the Spirit on them….

And of course, all THAT is, is speculation.

There is power in us believing we are divine in nature.

I accept paradox…it can be made up from a certain point of view, and also reflect truth.

I love the Lego movie. The first time I watched it I laughed the whole time. There are a lot of truths in that movie.

My view of the Gospel is that much of it is symbolically true. To me that is similar to saying it’s made up and true at the same time.

I very much consider myself a non-literal symbolic believer, and I love this thought. Your attitude in life makes such a difference in how you carry yourself. The ability to believe in yourself, and that you can become something greater is a very powerful idea.

I just figured the theme was “bad stuff happens when carnivores and omnivores stop eating herbivores and pretend that’s the way it should be.”

    Quote:

Tell me one last thing,” said Harry. “Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?”

Dumbledore beamed at him, and his voice sounded loud and strong in Harry’s ears even though the bright mist was descending again, obscuring his figure.

“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
