GuestThis just hit me as I contemplated living in different bubbles or “worlds” from a strictly literal member. It may have been discussed here before but I don’t remember: so here are some parallels to the Twilight series Cullen family and possibly Edward on some specifics: I feel there is some threat of disruption if my true nature is widely discovered
I didn’t choose to “change” into the person/member that I am
I don’t want to go live in isolation or with “others of my kind” and “give in” to “what I am” …that idea is an over simplification and an illusion
I recognize some benefits of my transformation, but I also recall with fondness times from before
Others would see me as dangerous, and that is the last thing that I want to be …but at times I am unsure
I hope to employ any of my “strengths” to the benefit of the community that would not accept me
I generally don’t feel I am a threat to the community, so I think it is best to not complicate the situation by trying to gain full understanding and acceptance.
Typically recently “turned” individuals are highly energized and can be hard to control
…just off the top of my head, anyone else want to play along?
[edit addition:] Feeding me a strictly literal interpretation is like trying to feed a Cullen regular human food. …but the “eating” analogy breaks down from there

GuestReally interesting way of framing it. I’ll have to think about it more, but I like it. February 7, 2013 at 8:16 pm #265157Anonymous
GuestSometimes I feel like Bella 😀 I try to plead the case that I’m in charge of my destiny and consciously choosing the life I want but then when the patient caring Edward figure is waiting there for me to take that step I smell dog and want to go run with the pack for a while.
Oh and I’m often told that no matter what emotion I’m feeling inside I always have the same facial expression

GuestI don’t know anything about Twilight, but that list is pretty accurate. February 8, 2013 at 4:14 pm #265160Anonymous
GuestI hear the books have so much more detail than the films, but I have found this page helpful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Twilight_characters#Transformation_process I think the transformation process has some interesting parallels. When enveloped in it, the sensation is “being burned alive” and you don’t know if you would rather die (give it all up) or fight for some form of survival.

GuestI like your parallels from a faith crisis perspective. I’d never considered it that way before as in my head the story was always leading in the opposite direction. Maybe you’re on to something. Did you just out Stephenie Meyer? 😆 For me the story was always about building the eternal family unit. Everyone paired up for an immortal life and fixed in their prime. The gentile vampires have to pass through the refiners fire to get theirs but the lamanite guy gets a free ride to immortality due to his heritage.
