What I like most about the Temple is the quiet and stillness. I think people have spiritual experiences there, not because it’s a magically spiritual place, but because of the stillness that is promoted in the temple. It’s much easier to connect with God when we are still.

The symbolic meaning of the tokens and the garment marks are quite powerful for those who understand them. Not so much or at all for those who don’t. I wish the meanings were taught openly in temple prep classes. It can be done without crossing any lines.

Just what do they mean? What makes them powerful?

I am convinced that the meaning and power of some things simply cannot be understood unless it is revealed by God. Someone could explain it plainly to me, show me pictures and videos, and perform all sorts of demonstrations, but it would mean nothing without the Spirit. Unfortunately, I have not had much revealed to me regarding temples.

I agree with you but I think it is a mistake to assume that any deeper meaning revealed to me is anything more than personal revelation, meaning it is useful to me but is not necessarily Truth, or The Way it is, or “someday, when your more spiritual you’ll have it revealed to you too.”

If I find some significance in how many oxen are under the baptismal font or how many steps are on the stairwell up to the endowment room, it doesn’t mean that there actually is some deeper meaning to it, but I might consider it personal revelation so long as there is something about it inspires me in someway.
