GuestSee how much difference a few words can make, especially when they read as directly explicitly toward a particular person – as your last paragraph was addressed specifically to me?
It’s cool.
I agree with the last “loss” with regard to missionary attire, but I disagree with the “dignity” losses. People who hate the Church will treat the missionaries and the Church horribly no matter what missionaries wear, and many of them will be even more upset when they feel waylaid by missionaries “in disguise” (since they can’t run and hide) than when they see them coming in white shirt and tie.
Look, I’m NOT defending standard missionary attire in my comments thus far and saying I think it’s the “only true missionary attire”. I just disagree that they look “stupid” in it and that they and the Church lose “dignity” by wearing it. I’d support a relaxation of the current standard, but for your last reason – not the others. Yes, I think it hurts results in many areas; I just disagree with some of your specific complaints – which is totally fine.

GuestI remember taking an investigator family to our ward in the car, and one of the young daughters says when she sees all the people in the car lot, “It looks like Men in Black.”
I had to suppress a chuckle at that one.

I think that is a good healthy response. It is important(I feel) to be able to laugh at ones self, arguably with a few close Jesus’s orthodox friends of mine I see a vast differnce in the composure and happiness and those that laugh at themselves and see the humor in some of thier beliefs and those that take it all seriously and aren’t able to luagh or poke fun of themselves and some of the things we do. You see a huge differnce in composure and smiles then the straight face super stressed ultra series ones. Even I find it with a sense of humor that the only prayers I have ever got really answered are the only ones I never asked for lol. Being able to find the humor even in “serious” things. Heaven forbid a bunch of serious god fearing people can have a good time. Relax, we all do or believe some things that open closely inspection really do seem silly or petty even in the religious or Mormon sphere.
