GuestFor any of you who remember lds Benji Schwimmer who won season 2 of “You Think You Can Dance”; he just gave some interesting interviews for a group called Mormon podcasts. It gives good insights what he went through to become a dancer and as to what Mormon youth go through in the lds church. He also shares his struggle with same-sex attraction, reparative therapy, evergreen, and coming out gay. Lacy Schwimmer is his sister who was in season three of “You think you can Dance” and danced with Cher’s son Chaz on Dancing with the stars. Part 3 is on coming out and his sexual orientation. It is so powerful and made me cry. http://mormonstories.org/350-352-dance-champion-benji-schwimmer/ May 30, 2012 at 5:08 pm #253123Anonymous
GuestMormon Stories podcast? Hmmmm, the name sounds familiar … but I just can’t place it.
I’m looking forward to the audio version being available so I can listen on my MP3 player on my commute.

GuestLOL Brian. I just realize how obvious it is here but I sent this to some of my non member gay friends as well.I just finished listening to part 3 on his sexuality. It was so powerful and I cried through parts of it. What an awesome young man as are so many gay lds people. I was so shocked to hear about the asterik * policy in the lds church that was implemented last year in Feb. What a horrible thing. It was all about legally covering their butts because of all that has been going on in the Catholic church over the past years I suppose. But, it is so demeaning to people like Benj. eithera video or as an mp3 file. So you can get the audio right now. MnG

GuestWatched parts 1 and 2 yesterday, part 3 today. Part 3 is very powerful. I saw someone that was trying his hardest to do everything right only to be cast off. June 1, 2012 at 1:31 pm #253127Anonymous

😆 I’ve been too cheap to upgrade.Ahh. I refer to my motorola as “Smart phone stupid user”. Fortunately, I have a 13 year old son who has taught me how to use it…

GuestWow, I am having trouble digesting/expressing what I just saw. I think that I have come to have the mental position that accepting our gay brothers and sisters is good and right, without having anything personally at stake. Somewhat like having an intelectual testimony that isn’t confirmed by the spirit, that “platform” just seemed to make sense. Hearing Benji’s story has placed a very real face on the issue for me. I’m not yet sure how that changes things – but I feel that it does. June 16, 2012 at 2:02 am #253130Anonymous
GuestThere is no way I can fully understand what Benji and others have suffered, but I will stand by my brother. If there was any way I could ease some of that pain, or take it on myself, I would. Orson*

GuestI finished the interview a couple days ago. The church lost someone very very special and super enthusiastic when Benji left

GuestI was so impressed by Benji during this interview. It was definitively heart-wrenching to listen to all of his struggles. He really did try his hardest to conform, but I think he ultimately made the best decision for his life. I wish him all the best. -
