GuestIt looks like Mormon Matters has imploded and most of the permabloggers have abandoned ship. Anyone know anything about it and if or where they’re going to start a new blog? September 30, 2010 at 2:47 am #235412Anonymous
GuestSome of us can put out feelers and find out what happened – but let’s keep this thread focused on the factual questions. I really don’t want it to turn to any sort of negativity forum about MM. (That’s not directed at you, GB. It’s just me being me and asking everyone to be careful in a thread like this.) September 30, 2010 at 3:04 am #235413Anonymous
GuestI’m afraid even factual questions may be inappropriate to discuss unless we can get Hawkgrrrl here to explain personally. Here’s the barest outline. It appears the old MM will be resuming under a new name in a new location with most of the permabloggers. An MM 3.0 of a different color may be started if feasible. Hawkgrrrl and John Dehlin are the ones to ask, but they haven’t been around here in a while, that I’ve seen.

Guest[Moderator insert: Link to MM explanation post ]http://mormonmatters.org/2010/09/29/what-happened-at-mormon-matters/ Thanks, Tom. I just read John’s explanatory post. Sad.
I’m going to lock this thread, pending input from someone who knows and wants to share. If that happens, we can discuss it; otherwise, it would be just speculation and innuendo, and I don’t want that.

GuestI read John’s post. It is mostly accurate. For another perspective, see http://irresistibledisgrace.wordpress.com/2010/09/29/what-happened-at-mormon-matters-reprise/ Yes, the (former) permas at MM are in the process of starting a new, unnamed blog. We hope to have it ready soon, but we need to work out the logistics first.
I’m grateful to have blogged at Mormon Matters, and I wish John well. Mormon Matters isn’t going away, but it looks like it will be revamped in a more news and podcast style site that John has wanted to do for a long time. I’m sad that it blew up, but I wish John the best with his site, and of course we will welcome everyone that wants to come to our new site. We will keep you posted.

GuestWe’re going to keep this thread locked, but we may continue to post updates as needed (by those with access rights). If any non-moderators would like to add a question or comment, feel free to send me a PM, and we can talk about including other questions or answers. Sorry to be so heavy handed with this topic, but it is a somewhat sensitive one right now. It really isn’t our place to get involved, and we don’t want to take sides (if that is even an issue, which I don’t think it is).
All of us work on other projects in the world of Internet Mormonism, and have good working and personal relationships with the former MM staff and John Dehlin. This project is independent of the changes over at MM, even if we are some of the same people working on StayLDS.

GuestThe former bloggers at Mormon Matters have put together a new blog called Wheat and Tares. Here is the link: http://www.wheatandtares.org/ -
