Jeff Burton is the Author of the Book “For Those Who Wonder” The book is written to help latter-day saints who find themselves on the fringes or “borderlands” of Mormonism. For those who have doubts and are skeptical by nature, there is a place for you and Bro. Burton is living proof that one can “Lead with Faith” in the midst of doubts. I believe Bro. Burton can be a an example held up for each of us to follow in navigating our own faith transitions.

This podcast USUALLY tries to focus on positive ways to deal with the issues while dealing directly with the real questions. Today is not that episode. Like you I have bad days and bad weeks and even bad months. Today is me talking out loud about what I think and feel in my bad days. If the message always being positive is important to you, you will want to skip this episode. Email me your thoughts on this episode both good and bad – reelmormon at gmail dot com

How do I live up to that compliment? Thanks for your kind words. I almost didn’t publish it as I felt it was too risky.

Today with sit down my dear friend Kevin Kloosterman. Among his years in the Church, Kevin has served as a seminary teacher and Bishop. He life took a unique path when his eyes were opened to the treatment that gays receive both in and out of the Church. With a fresh look regarding a nuanced issue, Kevin Spoke at the 2011 “Circling the Wagons” LGBT conference as a sitting Bishop. His talk can be watched here.
Kevin has been an outspoken ally of LGBT’s and their rights and has helped ensure fair treatment in his own state of Illinois but working within the political process to make Illinois a marriage equality state.
Kevin has put his own standing on the Church at risk as he has endured criticism, the taking of his temple recommend away, and even threats on his life. All this he continue to endure as a faithful Latter-Day Saint who pleads that we each treat others as Christ would!

GuestBill, that was a great interview with a wonderful man. I loved every minute of it. December 8, 2014 at 7:50 pm #258105Anonymous
GuestBill, You pretty much described my feelings in your “bad days” podcast and I applaud what you are doing. When learning about the true history, I really wondered why the Church saw me as unworthy to know the truth (that is completely what it feels like to me). At any rate, it has impacted me and made me a lot less trusting of our leaders. Surprisingly, at the same time, it has made me want to be a more Christlike individual.

GuestI just listened to the “bad day” podcast. I wish I lived closer so I could go grab a burger with you. Sounds like you could use an ear and a greasy burger and a shake. I do think it was important for me to hear. I think I moved a bit from thinking (but not believing) that we were supposed to think church leaders were perfect, to thinking that you must be perfect in this area of balancing .
I am not disappointed to know a bit of the real Bill (resisting pun, resisting pun). I feel I am more like you than before – and I think I am a good guy so that is good!
🙂 I am still struggling with figuring out everything, but thanks to you personally and your podcast I have learned to calm down and work through it instead of throwing in the towel and hating the church like I have seen so many do. It is so easy for TBM’s to see those and just write them off as “see how bad it gets when you don’t do every single thing you are supposed to do!!!” The web page you talked about is actually much more damaging in the long run than those that “leave the church, but can’t leave it alone.” I read part of the web page you mention A few hours after listening to your podcast I started listening to the latest Mormon Stories podcast on the Utah Polygamy essay. I was struck that even though they had a least a bit of a negative slant on the review of the essay, I realized that I have felt for some time if I want to get the details, I don’t go to the church to get them. The essays surely don’t go to any depth at all. In fact the other day I heard about Deseret News not carrying an add for the book “In Sacred Loneliness”, which made me go order it from Amazon. I love how you asked that the church live up to it’s past actions and current situation just as we have always been encouraged to live with integrity.http://www.linkingarms.org/questions-concerns-and-contradictions/ ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://www.linkingarms.org/questions-concerns-and-contradictions/ I am also glad to hear someone else feels that frustration I still feel when I want to say, “I am not asking you all to leave the church, but doesn’t this stuff bother you??” Like you mention, I also have nobody to talk to face to face on this.
And sorry about whatever $ loss you had. I had a bad boss a few years ago that gave me an impossible task and wouldn’t support me to really try to get it done. I worked my tail off that year and in the end he gave me an “unacceptable” rating that for that one year meant I got a $6K/year decrease in pay (not just one year) – and he knew it when giving me the rating. He moved on and I also changed jobs. Now 5 years later the task not done even though it is even more urgent than when I was tasked with it. I feel I was unjustly rated and it still stings even though I just got a good review and raise.
[end to my rambling]

Thanks, DB, for sharing a very human bad day. Here’s to fewer of them in the future.
