GuestSilent, I am happy to keep you anonymous and I can change your voice. your call, but I know you have an interesting story to tell. August 29, 2012 at 5:15 pm #257842Anonymous
GuestI’ll send a PM to talk about its potential…I feel that I appeal to a smaller subset of people who are really without faith issues, and have people issues that dominate their own transition. August 29, 2012 at 6:03 pm #257843Anonymous
GuestI did a search on iTunes, and didn’t find it. However, when I go to the blog, there is a link that says “Subscribe in iTunes.” That works, but you may want to see if you can get the search at iTunes to work better. August 29, 2012 at 8:41 pm #257844Anonymous
GuestI doubt anyone wants to hear about my version of staying LDS (much less read about it!), but I find that trying to articulate my thoughts helps me locate problems in the way I think and see things, so if you’re really, really desperate, let me know. cwald wrote:“I will take your calls, but don’t bother calling home.”
Unbelievable. So sorry about that, cwald. You can call me anytime. I’ll even give you my number if you want!

GuestNewest One is up. http://mormondiscussion.podbean.com/2012/09/04/methods-of-the-critic-pt13/ METHODS OF THE CRITIC pt. 1/3
This episode is a little different. This is a three part series where I take the evening program of another church and comment on it. This evening Program is about … duh duh… duhhh the Mormons. The speaker though respectful, gets a lot of information and descriptions of our beliefs wrong so here is my effort to show how one must be careful when hearing someone criticize our faith. I would love Feedback… please let me know. If you loved it or hated it. I was too nice… or too mean. Let me know. Either Comment here or send me a message via the links below.

GuestSome exciting things have occured recently. #1.) I did an interview with FAIR on their “Keeping the Faith podcasts” which will focus on how I got myself into my faith Crisis and How God helped me come out.
#2.) This FAIR interview got me thinking and had me wondering what assumptions and expectations we set up that contribute to our struggles – so my newest podcast episode is up
and is based on these assumptions and expectations….. I think it is one of my better ones!!!!!
I have been told by FAIR that I may send them some of my work and if it fits their mission, they may use it.
Also, I have been quite surprised by the traffic my podcasts have generated. Each episode has about 90-100 hits or “listens” to it. The site overall has had almost 3,000 visitors.
I would love to do interviews with any of you and hope you see the church is taking a much more active approach towards addressing faith crisis. People like us are struggling, they need help… any chance any of you might be ready to do something? send me a PM if you want to keep it confidential.

GuestThe FAIR interviews are up. Please be honest if you listen to them and give me your two cents. I value your opinion. http://www.fairblog.org/2012/12/12/keeping-the-faith-7a-the-reel-story/ http://www.fairblog.org/2012/12/12/keeping-the-faith-7b-the-reel-story/ December 12, 2012 at 4:14 pm #257849Anonymous
GuestThanks DB, I have long held assumptions and expectations at the center of the “cause” of faith crises. The bell went off for me when I read Davis Bitton’s “I don’t have a testimony of the history of the church” where he says the problem is our expectations. That being said I do think popular church culture contributes in a significant way to “false expectations.”
I would love to see this topic become well known in the church.
I would also love to see a better understanding among members of how different personality types are given different spiritual strengths. Everyone cannot believe in the same way because it is not in their nature to see all things in the same ways. I think the most important thing is to believe in the best and most productive way that we personally can. “Follow the spirit, it is your guide” should be our mantra; and we should assume that with our individual worth and purposes in God’s eyes we will be given unique directions to follow in our personal purpose on earth.

GuestThanks for the feedback. I really have a desire to help others through sharing my story and wish there was a way to make every member understand the difference in the assumptions and expectations we hold and what is realistic. I think so much of this issue of faith crisis dissapears if have that early on. Bill

GuestBishop…can I suggest you post an invitation at NOM for interviews. They are generally more “out” and perhaps willing to talk and go on record. Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2

GuestI listened to the two FAIR episodes today. I enjoyed many points and hope that it can help members understand and have more compassion toward those who experience a crisis of faith. One of my frustrations is when I hear members dismiss difficulties as being invalid in some way. Difficulties are personal, and just as you can’t discount a personal testimony you can’t dismiss personal struggles and blame the individual. No matter who we are we always know our personal views are correct. How ironic. Humility is divine.
I appreciate the comments of planting seeds of faith. I agree that it is a key to staying LDS. I also understand that some struggling individuals have a worldview combined with definitions so blown up that they don’t have a personally meaningful view of “faith” that they can use to even plant a seed. I hope that some day as a church culture we can learn to accept more people that we have a hard time personally relating to. I hope it can be tolerant to personal paths of enlightenment, and learn to see that even though we may use different words to express ourselves most people really are pointed toward common ideals.
For me, there was a time when I had to plant seeds of “truth” because I didn’t have an understanding of “faith.” Truth was my security blanket, it didn’t bother me that I didn’t understand what it was or how to find all of it; if I was granted the freedom to hold on to whatever parts of it I could find I felt good about my quest in life. If I had felt that the church was forcing me down a prescribed path and not giving me the freedom to gather up all the little bits of truth that I could find I would have considered myself “forced out.” But because at a key time I was encouraged to find my own path and to hold to ALL truth to my best understanding I was able to find a path back to the church. Sometimes definitions can be huge obstacles, I don’t think most people stop to think about how differently terms or ideas can be perceived from individual viewpoints.

GuestNewest Podcast is up – two part interview with Brian Whitney – Moderator at New Order Mormon and also works at the LDS Church History Department December 22, 2012 at 8:41 pm #257854Anonymous
GuestRan into a Hiccup. My recent interviews with FAIR and Brian Whitney have increased my site traffic dramatically. I have overused the bandwidth for my subscription with Podbean. I am a carpet salesman by trade and can’t throw money into this if I can help it. I am asking if any folks enjoy the podcast and want to help it grow and reach more people, consider donating to the Mormon Discussion Podcast. There is a donation screen at site mormondiscussion.podbean.com Just look for the paypal symbol.
Any Donations will be noted on the site and what they went to be used for noted.
If there are any questions or comments please contact me
Bill Reel
Also I am aware that some of you have approached me to do interviews. Please email me directly to begin moving on these and see if it is a good fit. Please know at the rate of a podcast a week it may take a few weeks to get to you.
Thank you for your understanding and help.
