…Fair Mormon Outreach – How is this similar and different from StayLDS. Is it for those that seek to return to a more traditional faith? Establish a more nuanced faith? Seek to hold on to the things of value even without a belief in the foundational stories? Where might it fall on the spectrum of websites?

It sounds like this outreach site is focused mostly on apologetics and trying to maintain traditional orthodox LDS beliefs but also to show more sympathy to those struggling with doubts than what you will see on other sites where many Mormon apologists are apparently more concerned with trying to win the argument (in their own mind) than genuinely trying to help people stay in the Church. I see StayLDS as more of a last resort for people to try to make the Church work for them and/or come to terms with their changed beliefs after they have already mostly given up on trying to defend some of the history, doctrines, and policies of the Church anymore.

StayLDS is intended to help people stay LDS, whatever their current situation and whatever they need to do so at whatever level they choose. There really aren’t any parameters outside that simple mission.

I like the suggestion to start a new thread about Mormon Fair Outreach. Anyone, feel free to do so.

    Philosophical Problem of Evil

In the philosophy of religion, the problem of evil leads to the question of how do we reconcile the existence of evil with that of a deity who is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent. This critical argument delves into attempts to show that the co-existence of evil and such a deity is unlikely or impossible, and attempts to show the contrary have been traditionally known as theodicies. Yet the LDS faith offers a unique paradigm to reconcile this age old question.

Chris Reeve hosts this episode of we reconcile evil in the world in a way that leaves room for Faith.

Thanks DB. Your talk touched my heart and gave me some things to ponder. Particularly what it might mean for me to have a “willing” heart. Thanks again!

I’m listening to the latest interview of Brandon wilcox. I have to admit I’ve almost stopped listening a few times. He rubs me the wrong way. When he basically seemed to be taking credit for escalating talk about p*rn in the church (by publishing in church magazine) I couldn’t help but think “So you’re the reason we’re so obsessed with it? And you’re proud of that!? Then continuing by saying that he was one of the first to start focusing on m@sterb@tion…again…great. But mostly it was his almost self righteous lack of epistemological humility. He gave an example of a bumper sticker thanking God for beer, which he ridiculed. Why shouldn’t they thank God for beer, if it is something they are grateful for? There’s a strong chance they don’t see it as wrong… :eh: Anyways I’ve stuck with it as I’m interested in his perspective on Grace. The bits I’ve heard through all the intro stuff (~45mins in) seem very powerful.

Sorry to hear your frustration. I love Bro. Wilcox and think his views on grace advance the ball and helps us reconcile this difficult subject. Glad you found some gems later on in the interview.

I sit down with LDS author Brant Gardner to discuss his book “The Gift and Power – Translating the Book of Mormon” and ask him tough questions about the translation process, Joseph’s Scrying or mystical use of the seer stone and skins of blackness in the Book of Mormon. We also touch on the Meso-American Setting model for the Book of Mormon.

    DEEPER MEANING OF THE SACRAMENT

Presentation on the Symbolism, Covenant, and Power of the Sacrament.

We discuss what it means to be willing and how that word applies to the Ordinance of the Sacrament. How the Sacrament both Cleanses us and Sanctifies us and whether we are covenanting to Keep the Commandments or being willing to do so.

As always feedback is much appreciated.
