GuestWell, if you turn it on its side the SLC temple looks a bit more like a Star Wars spaceship! November 16, 2015 at 9:43 pm #247917Anonymous

Read the following quote about Candy Carson’s (Republican Presidential candidate Ben Carson’s wife) fashion choices and it made me remember Hawk’s statement here.
Quote:Well-meaning sympathizers of Candy Carson have excused her appearance as a result of her religious beliefs. She is a devout Seventh-day Adventist, a religion that discourages women from wearing makeup and jewelry and emphasizes a modest appearance. OK. But religion and modesty are not synonymous with ill-fitting and unflattering and out-of-date.
Unfortunately Candy Carson and many other women are caught between a rock and a hard place. They must be attractive, but not too attractive – be presentable, without calling attention to themselves. Not an easy balancing act.

GuestPersonally, Roy…I think it is about doing the best you can with what you’ve got. When people don’t think you’re not even trying to be presentable, it seems to strike as lazy. If it leads to obsession with appearance, it is too prideful.
There is a balance. Do the best you can with what you have. (I believe I have bad taste by the way…so I’m open to help from my wife. I do what I can.).

Meh; if you know how to find your sizes, do minor alterations, and coordinate patterns, Goodwill can produce plenty of stuff that no one will guess came from there. I get all sorts of “I wish I could afford to dress as nice as you and still show up in a different suit for each day of the singles conference,” followed by stunned looks when I point out that none of the suits I wore that weekend cost more then $20. The $150 boots were more of an investment than the rest of my wardrobe. (Though the $6 ($189 retail) Cole Haan oxfords I wore for the dance will be needing a resole soon which will probably cost $40-60.)

Hey I quite like that! (Actually we have had a plaid suit wearer in our ward)
