GuestMormons are really nice people! I know I am making a generalization, but I do believe most Mormons are generally very nice people. Many times I have felt quite humbled by acts of kindness that I have observed, witnessed or experienced. My experiences have left me to strongly believe that the greatest asset the Church has are its members.
Sorry, I know this sounds like a strange rambling. I just wanted to share this positive feeling I have.

GuestNo need for an apology. It is extremely important for anyone who is struggling with what looks and/or is bad to remember just as vividly what looks and/or is good. Thank you for this post – and I agree.

GuestI read this earlier today and I’ve been thinking about it. I really do agree. i think a lot of times I get really caught up in worrying about what someone’s motivation may or may not be for an act of kindness or whether they’re being fake or not. But in the end, whatver their moitivations, they’re doing good for other people and being generally nice. Usually nicer than my grumpy introverted self is.
I’m not going to say that the ends justify the means, just that the means don’t negate the ends.
Sometimes I forget that.

I know I am making a generalization, but I do believe most Mormons are generally very nice people…Many times I have felt quite humbled by acts of kindness that I have observed, witnessed or experienced. My experiences have left me to strongly believe that the greatest asset the Church has are its members…Sorry, I know this sounds like a strange rambling. I just wanted to share this positive feeling I have. I agree that one of the main things the Church still has going for it more than any exclusive authority or doctrines that are true the way they claim is simply that the active members are by and large decent people sincerely trying to do good and be good the best way they know how. However, the main criticism I have about this observation is that I have also seen many cases where some of the niceness ends up being very conditional and dependent on outward conformity to the Mormon life script for those they already expect to follow this pattern. So as soon as long-time active members have been found to disobey the the WoW or law of chastity or fail to go on a mission and/or get married in the temple there are plenty of Mormons that will be anything but nice about it at this point especially in Utah.

GuestI would maintain also that sometimes high minded niceness/love, can translate to harsh cruelty at times when the end result fully plays out. It goes along the lines of sometimes it’s the ones whom we love and love us that are capable of hurting us the most. I think nearly all Mormons think they are charitable loving people, but sometimes their love plays out to be tougher than someone else’s. In the end between being on the end of someone who fully intends to be cruel and someone who thinks they are kind but are cruel by accident I think I would choose the latter everytime so I suppose my thought eclipses itself. GuestI agree that the people are the greatest asset but also have the potential to being the great liability also. Over all I really think your statement is true. I think Mormons are very kind and giving especially when it come to dealing with other Mormons, not so much with strangers who look like they have made some really bad choices. -
