I believe that this individual did what she did as a form of protest. There can be private protests that are known by none but the individual and help to keep a sense of integrity. There are also public protests to loudly proclaim to others that you are making a stand.
I personally am not the publicly protesting type. Mainly this is because I do not feel strongly enough about most issues to make personal sacrifices attempting to challenge the status quo.
However, I fully respect the right of individuals to take the public protest route (as long as they are fairly orderly and do not destroy property or disrupt critical business/infrastructure operations). I even admire them for their boldness and the strength of their passion.

I also understand that George W. And Laura Bush plan to attend to witness the peaceful transition of power. I also respect and admire this approach. It is not without its personal sacrifices but it is needed nonetheless. We are one nation after all and must get along to a certain extent for the good of everyone.

Good point about the individual right to protest. I likewise am not a public protest kind of person, generally, and for the same reason – I don’t usually feel strongly enough about any given issue to do so. I also don’t necessarily agree with some protesters (OW and Colin Kaepernick, for example). Nonetheless, I support the protester’s right to do so because that’s how our system works and because we have the freedom to do so. In this particular case, I think it’s this individual’s loss – MTC membership is not just handed out and in a couple weeks almost no one will remember what she did.
And indeed while this peaceful transition of power is not unique to our republic, it is also not a given in much of the world.

GuestI also think the Clinton’s and Bushes attending adds a silent gravitas to the Office of President. They may not even be attending in support of him, but of that Office. I actually give the Bush family a lot of Kudo’s. I think the relationships they created with the Clintons, especially Bill and George 41, working together, then becoming friends. And the close connections the Obama’s appear to have with George and Laura – especially Michelle and Laura are really a credit to the Laura and George Bush, and I wish the media and party leaders would take note of them. They are living proof that we can be a United Nation if we so choose. January 12, 2017 at 1:46 am #316521Anonymous
GuestYeah I’m aware the Clintons are pally with Trump. Shows how little democracy there is when the same social set is on offer… January 20, 2017 at 4:59 pm #316522Anonymous
GuestJust turned on the feed and the choir is singing “Oh Beautiful for Spacious Skies.” It’s my favorite National Anthem – No matter what I think of this President – Listening to them sing this Hymn – made me cry. May we as a nation live up to it. January 20, 2017 at 5:16 pm #316523Anonymous

Not only is it singable for the average person, I love the words. They capture all the grey area and paradoxes. I’m so glad they sang it and not “Battle Hymn of the Republic” – a great song but I’d say really not appropriate here.
I couldn’t help crying either and hope for good things.

– Perhaps it was the choir directors way of delivering a subtle message.

Agreed. Especially today.

GuestI do think the choir did great. I was also moved by yesterday’s Piano Guys piece “Okay” at the concert. January 21, 2017 at 4:40 am #316527Anonymous
GuestI missed Piano Guys, but on YouTube: January 21, 2017 at 11:09 am #316528Anonymous
GuestI was surprised to learn Glenn Beck said the following: Quote:This guy [Trump] is dangerously unhinged. And, for all the things people have said about me over the years, I should be able to spot Dangerously Unhinged.

It should be the US anthem IMHO. Star Spangled Banner is too hard to sing!
