GuestI’m a small potato here, but congratulations! Thanks for sharing real experience in real time. I know you may not want to violate her privacy, but whatever you can say about her beliefs in core areas and how they jibe with the church line and MTC experience, would be appreciated. GuestAnn, one of my earlier comments gave a little bit of description about her, but she is a very independent thinker – a Democrat-leaning Independent who would have voted for a viable Socialist or Libertarian candidate had there been one. She voted for Pres. Obama in Utah mostly as a protest vote against the Republican Party and Governor Romney. She is very uninhibited by classic Mormon standards – often saying things that make both her male and female Mormon friends blush. She is fun-loving and has a wicked sense of humor. People who know her adore her, but the more traditional ones have a hard time understanding her really well. She also has a deep testimony of the Gospel and the Restoration. She definitely is a “love the Gospel and the ideal of the Church but get frustrated over the culture of the Church” type of person.

GuestIf anyone wants a good laugh, she just texted me the following: Quote:I am on a polygadate with some Oremites. Fun times.

GuestYour daughter sounds great! Her companions will love her, and I’m sure she’ll find many like minded comps. I did, and I was a lot like your daughter. Maybe with more salty language. She’ll have to watch lots of Hogans Heroes to prepare. :ugeek: November 28, 2012 at 4:29 pm #261891Anonymous
GuestGerman attitudes towards sex and nudity are somewhat different to ours. Especially on television! Also, I was somewhat amazed to hear the German equivalent of the S word get used on a children’s program!

GuestMy daughter’s MTC report time was 12:45 MST, so I assume she has been in the MTC officially for about 5 minutes. Just wanted to give everyone an update. Oh, and I now can say that I have been the companion of a sister missionary, since she was set apart Monday evening and I was the only person available to be her companion Tuesday morning to do some last minute shopping before she flew to Utah yesterday evening. So, I’ve had a female mission companion. I’m special.

GuestCongratulations Dad – on both achievements. May your house be blessed. February 7, 2013 at 12:02 am #261894Anonymous
GuestMy sister-in-law with whom she spent the night and who took her to the MTC sent us a picture of her standing with the Elders who were the welcoming committee at the MTC. It was a little weird seeing her for the first time as a missionary (with other missionaries in a “formal” missionary picture). Warmed my heart, frankly. I will try to get the picture uploaded so everyone can see it.

GuestWhen my daughter got to the SLC airport this morning with 30 other missionaries going to Germany, they met a man who had been one of the first missionaries to serve in East Germany. All of the missionaries going to the Berlin Mission got a picture taken with him. He emailed the picture to her Mission President, who posted it on the mission blog. She is on the phone with my wife and children right now, calling from the Houston airport – waiting to travel to Amsterdam and then Berlin. I’ll be talking with her in a few minutes.
Times have changed dramatically since I served.
Here is the link. My daughter is the one in the blue sweater, kneeling in the front row:

GuestYou must be very proud of her. I’m sure she will do a good job, and you have raised her well. March 19, 2013 at 11:56 pm #261897Anonymous

GuestMy son just began his mission service to New Mexico. I’m drawn to all things missionary. I hope Germany enjoys your daughter. She sounds like a hoot! March 21, 2013 at 3:07 am #261899Anonymous
GuestWow, Germany? Thats a really interesting place to go on a mission. The YM from my ward keep getting called to un-exotic places like California & Kansas. (: blue_bird -
