Did I say this already… I have often thought it… But might not have said it.
I wonder whether staylds is a victim of its own success. It helps some people leave mormonism with a little more dignity (so the website is no longer needed) and other re-embrace mormonism and not still be seeking reasons to stay.
Perhaps those left are still seeking a direction or resolution or are the mentors/tutors in the ‘school of staylds.’

GuestNo, mackay11, we aren’t a “victim of our own success”. We’ve said all along that we would love to see the day when we aren’t needed by anyone – that complete success for us would be closing shop for lack of need. I celebrate every time someone like Mike leaves. I miss each person who does so, but I am SO happy they have reached that point and no longer need us.
When I read Mike’s message to my wife, she asked why people like Mike don’t stay to help others. I told her he has done that during his time here, in spades, and that some people (not necessarily Mike) are better off moving away from the angst and raw emotion of those new to a faith crisis once those people have reached a place of peace in their own lives. She understood that and wished Mike well on his journey.
Have I mentioned I married a good woman?

Ray, that’s fantastic, and really captures what I believe as well.Just so you know, StayLDS, and specifically our TR Interview Survey process, are under attack right now by the Mormon Apologist community. Yesterday, Dan Peterson published Greg Smith’s polemic review of John Dehlin’s Mormon Stories efforts, including references to StayLDS, on MormonInterpreter.com. The title of the piece is “Dubious ‘Mormon’ Stories”. In parallel, I was banned without cause from the Mormon Dialogue and Discussion board earlier the same day this hit piece was published, so I am prohibited from defending our site and our efforts here in response to the hit-piece. On the “Mormon Discussion Board”, the exiled community of other banned “MDDB” posters, I began to be specifically attacked for my participation here on StayLDS, using the words from the TR Survey in an attempt to brand me an apostate.
On one hand, I look at the things we have accomplished in helping people — not as a point of arrogance and pride, but really, just because under your moderation here, we have been able to focus on helping each other — and I really rejoice in this site and the very small but very kind community that resides here. I am humbled to be in the presence of caring people who are simply trying to make it work and in many cases, have.
On the other hand, I have to recognize that this isn’t for everyone, and that those who move on do so for good reasons. I am with you that our ultimate aim should be that there be no need for us, but there will be, and there continues to be.
I have some profound, mixed emotions right now.

GuestWayfarer, I admire your, well, faith. The MAD and MDB threads dealing with the TR accusations about you and the Greg Smith’s John Dehlin hit piece have been devastating to me. A very very sad day indeed. Especially considering this thread…where Mike has found a way to make peace and STAY.
Best of luck again Mike.

GuestMike from Milton!! I’ve enjoyed reading some of your insights and the advice you gave to me in some of the threads that I started.
It’s good to see that you found away to embrace the LDS religion.

Well I really don’t know.
Personally I had my major faith issue in my mid 20’s so I feel like I’m among the younger crowd here. I’m not married and I don’t have kids.
My current bishop in the singles ward is aware of my faith struggles and is aware of my justified jack Mormon status.
I sometimes go out with friends to bars and sometimes I drink if I am not driving. If I drive I never drink.
I see the girls in the bar and think that they are great. I see the girls at church and I think they are great. I know the girls who I see at the bar wouldn’t go to church with me and the girls who I see at church will most likely not go to the bar.
I kind of feel like eventually I will have to make a choice as to which type of girl I would want to be with, which will also be the deciding factor of the lifestyle I will live.
That is is just my situation.
It is good to see that it is possible to choose one. Mike From Milton has chosen to stay LDS completely and has stretched himself beyond the need of this site. I wish you luck and thanks again.GREEN “> APPLES February 25, 2013 at 8:59 pm #265511Anonymous

No.
My advice, fwiw:
Stay off those boards and let them rant away. They don’t speak for the Church any more than we do.

GuestMike, you’re a good man. It’s awesome you’re able to go to church, have a calling, and go to the temple. I will keep you in my prayers and may God be with you in your life’s journey. -
