I met briefly with my bishop today after church. First of all, I asked him if he had any ideas since our phone call a few days ago. He didn’t. He simply testified that sometimes we go through things in life that we don’t understand. I get that. He didn’t say it in a rote, way, but actually said it in a thoughtful, meaningful way, which I appreciated.

We next discussed the question about record annotation, which I posted in another thread (http://forum.staylds.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3628).

Next, we talked about how I am going to get through church in the next little while as I develop better emotional boundaries. He agreed that it was better for me to come for a short time once a week than to do three hours and not come back for several weeks. He also supports me in seeking releases from my callings, if that will help me stick with the church. He is going to ask for a release from my stake calling (ward singles representative), and I am going to negotiate how to handle the 2nd counselor in the EQP thing directly with the EQP. I feel good about it.

Your Bishop is a good man who really does love you and is trying to understand what you are facing.

That alone can make all the difference.

I think it’s good that you seem to be accepting or dealing with the fact that there are no answers, and trying to make the church experience better in spite of the challenges. That’s what struck me as standing out in your post, implicitly.

My increasing comfort with ambiguity seems to suggest I’m heading toward Fowler’s Stage 5* with some of my issues…I see that as a hopeful thing; Stage 4 is painful. 😥

*Inasmuch** as Fowler’s theory is valid. It seems to hold up in my life.

    **Did I just write “inasmuch”? Boy, I really am a Mormon, aren’t I? 😆
