A good friend of mine had a very difficult past prior to joining the Church. She was one of the best Relief Society Presidents I have ever known, largely because she was humble and completely non-judgmental about sin and pain and heartache and anything else that tends to cause judgment. By the time I got to know her, she was fairly open about her past and her struggles, and she helped so many people come to an acceptance of themselves – while also helping them in their resolve to leave their past behind and create a new, better future.
She posted the following today, and I immediately thought of all of you here at StayLDS.com:
Sometimes God redeems your story by surrounding you with people who need to hear your past, so it doesn’t become their future.
Thank you for being willing to share your pasts and presents in an effort to help yourselves and others create better futures. There is an element of redemption and healing in that willingness that is powerful and profound – and fundamentally Christ-like.
God bless you.
