I don’t want to vent it on the open page, but I am sickened by it. If you catch me going overboard feel free to edit/mod as needed.

When a shortened reference is needed, the terms “the Church” or the “Church of Jesus Christ” are encouraged. The “restored Church of Jesus Christ” is also accurate and encouraged.

While the term “Mormon Church” has long been publicly applied to the Church as a nickname, it is not an authorized title, and the Church discourages its use. Thus, please avoid using the abbreviation “LDS” or the nickname “Mormon” as substitutes for the name of the Church, as in “Mormon Church,” “LDS Church,” or “Church of the Latter-day Saints.”

Hmm….are we gonna need to rename the website…

    “StayTheRestoredChurchofJesusChrist.com/forum”

Do we need to get on that “.com” name???? 🙄 :lolno:

I can begin to hear it at church over the pulpit and leaders correcting people already. Here we go again.

Don’t they do this every decade? And people ignore it.

But this time is a little different (emphasis added).

    Quote:

The Lord has impressed upon my mind the importance of the name He has revealed for His Church, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints …

    Quote:

We have work before us to bring ourselves in harmony with His will.

This time it’s a revelation from the Lord and we need to bring ourselves in harmony with his will.

The Lord has some messed up priorities. I have to sit and listen about how great Donald Trump is in the gaps between meetings at church (sorry for getting political) and the name of the church is what the Lord is concerned about. Gold.

And since we’re venting in private…

    “even”

Seriously? Those so-called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Sainticans sure can get under my skin.

Oh, and you better believe that I will enjoy every second of trolling the $#!+ out of anyone at church that tries to correct me over this. jk

But I suspect it will be another one of those times where members talk about it one weekend and it’s forgotten the next. Until the SP shows up to make a federal case about it, then we forget about it the weekend after that.

Pedantic Jesus grumble grumble grumble grumble

I ran across this in darker corners of the vineyard. It’s got language.

    This is my favorite part….

    😆

    Could you imagine:

    Quote:

Friend: Hey, what religion are you?

Orthodox member: I’m a member of The Church.

    Friend: Which church?

    Orthodox member: THE Church.

    Friend: Aren’t you mormon?

Orthodox member: We go by “The Church” now.

    Friend :wtf: The LDS church?

Orthodox member: Just the Church. That’s what we would like to be called by now. I’m a member of The Church.

Friend: Can you be more specific…there are lots of churches.

Orthodox member: Just “the Church” please. God has impressed the mind of our prophet on this. We ask you respect that and call us the Church now.

Friend: :wtf: People told me you people were weird.

Orthodox member: I believe “peculiar” is the right word. We’re a peculiar people.

    Friend: ….uh…ya you are.

😆 Good luck with that shortened reference! As if that will ever catch on.

Dude…we’re mormon…that ain’t goin away. Embrace it. Nibbler’s meme is right…you think God cares about this? If so, he really is an angry jealous self-absorbed God as described in the OT.

I’ve had a few conversations with some friends that graduated from Ohio State that went like that.

If Jesus is feeling that we need to make Him the focus of our worship and get in line with actually doing the things he taught, hey, THAT I believe. But this, coupled with doubling down on the utter rubbish that is the Exclusion Policy–and calling both revelation to lay a hand on the scale for the TBM enclave–is something I’m incapable of buying. Sorry, but no. I think Nelson is making it really difficult for our kids to stay engaged in the church. My second son who explained to us that he’s not exactly gay but he’s definitely not straight and who has already stopped attending church for the most part doesn’t buy it any more than I do, and if my daughter knew my son’s sexual orientation (she doesn’t), she would also not buy it. Oldest son is an agnostic deist and has been out for 4 years now.

I wrote this but then deleted on your seminary thread.

    Quote:

When I first voiced concerns over RMN as president, people said, “He’s 93. It won’t last long.”

He is 93 and kickin’. This isn’t even Joseph’s church anymore.

And our kids are definitely not coming to this party. I think even orthodox kids will start finding reasons to step back. We aren’t Amish. We can’t hide in some cute town. Everyone else has to work, live, and breathe with many diverse people.

It’s a strange thing to be emphasizing and doubling down on. Kinda weird priorities. As if this is our biggest fish to fry at a time when people are not so keen on stiff religious dogma and rule setting.

Instead of getting more chill…we are complicating matters.

Maybe the marketing department thinks Trump is on to things…like throwing out weird comments to NFL players to distract the news media and public from more pressing matters.

Geez…if we start following Trump’s approach… God help us!

Church will be fun as the Uber zealous start correcting others on name references 🙄

Mom3, you can tell me to shut up and pipe down if I get too snarky. Geez-louize

There are better ways to go about that. Changing the focus of the PH/RS hour from what church leaders have said to what Christ has said would be a start. It takes more than telling others to call us Christian for us to change the perceptions that we are not Christian. The church itself appears to be a focal point of our affections. Hey, one of the acceptable labels was “The Church.”

This sure has been a distraction. Everyone is talking about it. You think Nelson tossed this out there to distract everyone from a plan to secretly take away the ward janitor while no one is looking… wait, they already did that. What benefits does the church provide that they could take away that they are trying to distract us from? ;)

Maybe the secret plan is to take the ward buildings off the electrical grid and call people to pedal bikes to generate electricity for the building during the three hour block. It might not be so bad. Cardio and avoiding Sunday School.

    Look on the bright side:

Like I said in the other thread, this makes us all ex-Mormons. :P
