New again. Again.

Wow. Every time I see this forum it is with new eyes. Since COVID, and with my illness, I have been highly sequestered. I am just now coming out of sequestration (once again) and this time for the first time in over two years have been away from home overnight. DW And I ventured out from our home in the Frozen North to visit some of our children in the LDS heartlands of Wyoming and Utah. Great trip, and if short, it was still a big step. I had to come back earlier than we planned, but it was still a big step. Early on, I took President Nelson up on his challenge to get vaccinated, and feeling protected ventured out to church, declaring myself out of sequestration to all I talked to. Then the next day or so, got back results from an antibodies test and found I had none! Back into sequestration.

The big news is that after reading some of my earlier posts, I can’t believe my change in so many perspectives. I feel like I’m new here in so many ways. Although sequestered, I have not been idle. I would like to share some of that in the coming days. As previously, I am amazed at the love and acceptance one finds here. You surely are a ministry of love and kindness.

Yes, I can tell that my perspectives are also still evolving. I suppose that is a good thing. The opposite of evolving is calcifying or stagnating, and I wouldn’t want that.

It is normal and even good to learn and to grow and to change.

I’ll often say that I like looking back on how I was in years past and being embarrassed.

It means I must have learned something along the way.

My perspective has also changed over the years, including church perspectives, social perspectives, and political perspectives. I like to think the changes have all been for the better.

Thanks for your comments. For me, changing perspectives is what it’s all about to stay comfortable or at least in a state of truce with the Church. I started in life with the premise that the Church is true – first thanks to my parents, then thanks to Primary, Mutual, Seminary, Institute, other Church teachings, spiritual experiences, and scripture study. For some reason I start from a positive view instead of an immediately rejecting view – maybe because of my view of my parents. I don’t know for sure. Then some undeniable disturbing fact or observation makes me ask or say, “ How can that sort of thing be in the True Church of Jesus Christ?”, or “I can’t live up to that construction of righteousness or worthiness or even membership based on my previously accepted assumptions and how I now feel “, “ or how do I go on after that incredible embarrassment?”. These are terribly disturbing notions. This forum helps me find the perspectives that help me cope. For that I am grateful and to all you who help me do that. Thanks so much.

Thanks. For me, this is one of the few places I feel comfortable discussing perspectives on Church topics. The general church population is generally too uninterested or defensive.
