GuestThe LDS church just bought a high end $45 million apartment complex in the Dallas area. While I do understand that it is an excellent investment, I would’ve been happier to see them provide low-income housing or a job-skills learning center. July 29, 2016 at 6:55 pm #313697Anonymous
GuestAnd I was just told I have been scheduled to clean the church next month – the 3rd time this year. It seems they are narrowing down the list they ask to those that will do it. I don’t mind giving service, but I have many other items I would do, such as minor home repair at one of my home teaching families of a divorced woman. The church buying this makes it hard to swallow they really need me to scub the toilets (I usually volunteer for that – and being a stake center we have 12!) It just does not compute.
Sigh

GuestThanks for posting this. They also own 5% of Florida. The article indicates: “But it was purchased by Utah-based Property Reserve Inc., a real estate investment and development company owned by the of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, county deed records show.”
I am sure there is diversity of opinion on this, but I have issues with this when we still have problems getting access to counseling services through LDS Social Services. I know I did when I was struggling with member behavior when I was HPGL. I know Bishops get free counseling, but I needed the help, and they couldn’t give me an appointment.
It makes it hard for me to give away the 10% I should be allotting to self-reliance, college funds, education to make me employable, expensive new health treatments for my son, and planning for my own retirement when I hear such things as this.
Sorry to all the people who don’t have a problem with it, but I do.
