GuestI am going to talk to “document” about their “Frustration” post http://forum.staylds.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=927 I think it looks more like a rant against the Church. I feel bad for them, and it is a good topic. I am going to ask them to shorten their post and remove a lot of details. I am also not sure that their final question “What do I do?” is actually a question about faith reconciliation (the mission of our site) as it is about how to confront the bureaucracy of the Church (which is not our mission).
Please don’t approve it until we have a resolution.
Thanks.

Guestletter to “document” Hi document,
I am one of the admins and moderators for the site. All new registered users are in a limbo status when they make their first post. The system automatically holds the post pending moderator approval. It’s our way of making sure new people post topics that are right for the mission of our site. After that, your future posts go right through. Honestly, it also helps to block trolls and ad spammers.
First off, let me say I am very sorry to hear about the trouble you have had. I think you are bringing up a good topic for discussion, but I don’t think it is formatted right for our board. Can I please ask you to edit your post before we approve it? In particular, I would like you to remove a lot of the graphic details of the pornography. Perhaps compress it all into a single paragraph that just explains that your father is addicted to porn, is being unfaithful, is breaking the law, and you caught this with your professional tech skills, and then him denying it.
It is fine to talk about having problems with the bureaucracy in the Church. We can open that up for discussion. Many people have run-ins with Church leaders who fail to act the way we would hope and expect. This does cause people to question their relationship with the Church.
Please remember though, our site’s specific focus and mission is helping people find ways to reconcile a crisis of faith, and move on to find a new uplifting relationship within the Church. We deal with issues of faith, and not so much on how to bypass or confront Church leaders.
Thanks. I appreciate your attention to helping us produce good content for the hundreds of readers every day who never post.
Best Regards,
Valoel

GuestHoly crap!!! That certainly isn’t the story we’re used to hearing. Quite honestly I’m having a bit of a hard time believing it all. In any case, Valoel, I support your actions here. October 22, 2009 at 3:25 am #224592Anonymous
GuestI read the post and immediately thought to ask everyone if they believed it. It’s not that I don’t believe it could happen, since I’m sure there are some uninspired and wrong-acting leaders, but to have everything in the post be true would require a combination of things that are hard to believe. This might be the exception that proves the rule, but it certainly might be a troll – and there’s not much more that can be said by the author if the situation is real and pending legal action.

GuestThey were not interested in editing their post. They nicely declined and said to just delete it. Like others noticed, it’s a situation that is theoretically possible, but it seems highly unlikely that so many local Church leaders would all conspire and collude in the grand injustice as described. I also felt a little “dirty” after reading it, like they were a little bit too much into describing all the details of the pr0n and the attempted hook-ups … just a vibe I got. The message could have been conveyed with far less detail.

GuestI think the response was instructive. Thanks!

GuestEven if the story is “true,” that is, not a troll, it is only one side of the story. I think it’s better that we delete it anyway. October 28, 2009 at 12:40 am #224596Anonymous
