GuestI’m thinking this request for a new user is fake. I’m not good at the Admin tools…but we should ban the IP address. Anyone know how to do that, or feel like we should reach out to them…because based on this quick search (screenshot attached)…I’m thinking they get banned. Looks like the IP address is from India, and there are other usernames and emails used for that on other forum span submissions.
What do you say??

GuestI saw that user this morning and ended up at that exact same site you took a screenshot of. Should have deleted the user but I let it ride, passed the buck. If the justification text isn’t awesome, I think it this case it was something like “so I can participate” I do a google search on the email address they provided and go hunting.
There was another user like this last week that I did end up deleting.
I don’t think we have to go so far as to ban an IP… unless we start getting lots and lots of requests for accounts coming in.

GuestI agree with Nibbler,we can just not approve the membership and delete the user. I don’t see that we generally get multiple requests from the same IP, fortunately. If we do get multiple requests (without a better justification) we can ban the IP then. I use IP locator when I check them, also came up India. June 7, 2017 at 5:46 am #321430Anonymous
GuestDo it. Good input, everyone. June 8, 2017 at 11:13 am #321431Anonymous
GuestI saw an (one) activation request from India yesterday. I deleted it. There’s one more today that I’m deleting:
Code:
User: Tommy Jhon
Email: tommyj98@yahoo.com
Justification: i love this community
IP: 59.92.216.226
(code to prevent the email address from becoming a link)
I’m adding the information to the thread so we can see if there’s a pattern with activation requests that can be addressed by banning IPs. Like in this case, Tommy Jhon and luisfrancis belong to 59.92.216.*.
Still… every so often, even one request per day is manageable. One day someone from India may be legit. You never know.

GuestIf you have any questions, copy the email address and check it on Facebook and google it. It’s amazing how often that helps. As a rule, base it on the justification text. We have it for a good reason. If it is scant or generic, and the source seems iffy, don’t approve it. If you see a pattern like that associated with an IP address, ban it.

GuestYep, automatically delete or ban anything with gibberish as the justification text. In cases like that one, ban the IP and email addresses. -
