GuestThis isn’t related to StayLDS exactly, but I thought I’d share it as I find these kinds of notes motivating to the work we do. Since we’ve lived in Singapore I have been teaching 12-15 year old Sunday School. One of the girls in the class has a dad who is not LDS and a mom who is somewhat hostile but a member (is on the Do Not Contact list). I was assigned as the mom’s VTer also, but she asked for no visits and no messages. My partner who was really gung ho (a Singaporean) kind of had a run-in with her and the then RS president told her to continue to try with her, which seemed like a really bad idea. Anyway, they just recently moved out of our ward boundaries, and I had an email from the mom:
Quote:Angie,
Thank you for being Sadie’s Sunday School teacher over the past year and longer. She has enjoyed your class tremendously and I have appreciated her having a teacher that presents material as fairly as possible.
My husband has moved out of the country so the kids and I have moved to a smaller apartment near SAS. As a result, Sadie will likely not be attending your class anymore. I did not want Sadie to just disappear from class without expressing our gratitude to you.
Kind regards,
–Jennifer
I also had a follow up note from the RS president today:
Quote:Angie, when I spoke to Jennifer, she was very complimentary of you and the manner in which you taught Sadie’s Sunday School class. She made it very clear that you were the only reason Sadie was allowed to attend any church at all. Thank you for all you’ve done to reach out to the family. You’ve gone above and beyond your call as a visiting teacher and I really appreciate that.
Kindly,
Jamie
Anyway, here’s the weird coincidence. They are moving back to the US this coming summer (as are we), and Sadie is apparently going to be attending the same high school my son will attend in Scottsdale. Small world. They are not from Scottsdale, but that’s where they are ending up next.

GuestThanks for sharing this. As to the Scottsdale situation: Tender mercies, indeed.

GuestAng, that’s awesome! When are you moving back? March 11, 2013 at 5:30 am #266862Anonymous
GuestTheoretically mid-July. We have some flexibility on move dates (our condo here is paid for through first week of August). I am leaving Amex in the process and taking severance, so I’m fully paid through next May even if I don’t work. I am in conversations with a variety of recruiters and companies, so it’s possible we won’t end up in Scottsdale, but that’s our default as we own a home there. I’m totally open to location, globally even, so who knows what the future holds. Also I’m burned out, but that’s just being in my mid-40s. Unfortunately, we aren’t yet wealthy or old enough to retire. -
