After listening and assessing some of the harder to swallow talks – I am ready to announce that I will be in the eternal kingdom of Weeping, Wailing, and Gnashing of teeth. I’d hoped to make a higher one, but it sounds like I missed the boat. Bummer for me. Your welcome to visit if you like. I believe angels from the higher kingdoms are able to do that. I’ll keep the light on.

Elder (Allan) Packer’s talk was solid but standard about temple work. I like, however, that he quoted a RS President and not just PH leaders.

Elder Martinez’s talk is wonderful so far.

    Quote:

“The love of Christ must be our guide in loving and serving people.”

This really is an excellent talk.

Yeah. That is why I go out and drink beer and mow the lawn conference weekend and let you dupes do the research for me. :)

Cwald – Yesterday and today I have kept busy with things. I have it on at times, then take off. I came back just in time to hear about my ship sailing fate. I am now moving on with Elder Holland and Oaks in hand, some Boyd K. Packer that I didn’t expect and heading to my assigned slot in life. I am taking my dog to the dog park. That’s where the sun is shining.

I’ll probably download Packers from Saturday Morning, and this one from Monson Sunday morning, and call it a rap.

I struggle with what to say about these sessions of conference. There are a few jewels in the rough, but I’m getting cut up wading through the massive amounts of rough trying to find them.

I went into conference hoping that the leaders might reach out to people with love but I feel like the hidden wedge has only been driven further into the tree. I feel like the leaders only entrenched themselves against the disaffected rather than extending a hand of fellowship.

Kudos to the staylds crowd that only echo the positive, I’d like to be that way but I guess it’s fairly obvious that I’m disappointed by conference. This was a rough general conference. Most of my hopes were dashed, that’s on me for having perhaps unrealistic expectations or perhaps unworthy hopes.

I’m probably going to have to keep my mouth shut for a long, long time. Should specific talks be discussed here I’d likely be modded so I may sit out on those discussions. There is a lot of hurt to work through. A lot. I’ve never felt more unwelcome in the church than I did during the Saturday afternoon session, and many talks today built on those feelings.

I appear to have sold the field. Have fun with the pearls guys.

Fwiw, I don’t know anyone here who has only echoed the positive. To me, that would be disingenuous and wrong.

    My own tally was:

    Good – exceptional talks = 10

    Bad / difficult talks = 5 (I miscounted originally.)

Neutral (neither good nor bad but middle of the road) = 10

If I miscounted, that is close.

Feeling the same way Nibbler. I was so hoping for a kinder gentler conference. Instead, I feel it’s clearer than ever that there’s no place for the island of misfit toys in the church. Very sad time for me. 😥

I guess I should delete that “only” from the statement. Kudos to those that have found ways to remain positive and refrain from dwelling on the negative. I’m sincere, there is no sarcasm in that statement. Unfortunately the negative parts of conference seemed to outweigh the positive this go round, that was a first for me. I’ve got a ways to go.

I did like the talks about Jesus and caring for the poor. Wish that’s all we talked about int he church.

I think the main problem is that the bad / difficult talks were really bad / difficult. They were outnumbered, but they really hurt.

Well nibbler. .. if it was anything like October 2010 conference, I’m sorry.

    Lessons learned.
