GuestSaturday Afternoon I like the “Amen” added to “Joseph Smith’s First Prayer.”

GuestI’m not finding Cook’s talk to be particularly helpful. October 1, 2016 at 8:26 pm #314904Anonymous
Guestlol Cook. It’s a skipper.

GuestAfter the talk about Joseph Smith (the third or fourth speaker), I had heard enough and went mountain biking to seek peace. I listened to Israel Kamakawiwo`ole during my drive. Check out my pics from Diamond Fork, Spanish Fork Canyon: October 1, 2016 at 8:29 pm #314906Anonymous
Guest‘Gospel extremism’ is when you elevate one aspect of the gospel above all others. Kind of like what we do with The Family? October 1, 2016 at 8:31 pm #314907Anonymous
GuestElder Cook’s talk isn’t one that moves me overall, since it is too orthodox in many ways for me, but I do love that he just called out “Gospel extremism” – including, explicitly, “expensive end-of-days preparation”. He just told members who take things further than the leadership to knock it off, and I appreciate that. October 1, 2016 at 8:32 pm #314908Anonymous
GuestIf we are more devoted to a cause than the Savior and his teachings (which were primarily love for our fellow man), we are looking beyond the mark. Seems like a reiteration of the commandment not to judge. Wish that was actually said.

GuestCook – “Jesus Christ isthe mark.” Still very authority-oriented. Gospel extremism is “taking a position that is beyond of contrary to church leaders.” So, unfortunately, in a big church that Christ himself can’t administer, there is more than one mark. I don’t know how to resolve this.

GuestMary Elizabeth Rollins was a plural wife of both Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. (This was a polyandrous sealing as she already had a living husband, Adam Lightner.) I knew the name sounded familiar, I’ve been listening to the Year of Polygamy. October 1, 2016 at 8:41 pm #314911Anonymous
GuestI think TBMs often conflate “the Gospel” with “the current understanding of church leaders.” The same thing is happening in Cook’s talk. Christ taught that when we teach more or less than his gospel it is evil, not “when we teach more or less than the opinion and culture of church leaders” October 1, 2016 at 8:44 pm #314912Anonymous
GuestWe have the privilege of holding the complete Book of Mormon in our hands. Wait, what about the sealed portion?

Guest“The grace of God does not restore us to our previous innocent state.” It brings us to a different state with a different understanding. Even if some others do not understand that destination state. October 1, 2016 at 9:03 pm #314914Anonymous
GuestI don’t think I’ve ever heard Annie Sullivan referred to as Ann. October 1, 2016 at 9:05 pm #314915Anonymous
GuestJoni, as gently as I can say this, we ought not make people “offenders for a word”. There is plenty to cause some concern. Not including the sealed portion in that talk s not one of them.

GuestI don’t think I’ve ever heard Ann Sullivan referred to as Annie. Life is interesting, isn’t it?
