GuestMy DH does his HTing in a real way. When I was a VT, I rarely missed doing my VTing. We both approached it as truly caring for people in a real way. When assigned to new people, we stayed friends and resources for past people we had been assigned to. For us, we tried to give 100%.
OTOH, we have been assigned some HTer who did not approach it with the same energy. We have given better than we received. Our hope was that we showed some families an example of what could be.
Too often, people want to give a little less than they recieve. If their HTers are not stellar, that is used as an excuse to be even less stellar. When I mentally decide to give a little more than I receive, it is a healthier dynamic for me personally and for my community.

Amen. Getting to that point is one sign of successfully moving through a faith crisis and into a faith transition.

Sometimes we are in a position where we can give a little more than we receive. In those instances we have the luxury of making the call on whether or not we’ll give. Other times we are in a position where we need to receive more than we are capable of giving. In those instances we’re probably at the mercy of others. I don’t see one position as being morally better than the other. It’s cyclical, given enough time things may come full circle.
I’m not pointing a finger or anything but I did want to say that I think healing can come from tossing out the scorecard altogether.

GuestAmen, nibbler. I have been in both positions more than once, and neither is inherently bad or worse than the other. Sorry if my last comment implied that message. I didn’t mean it to do so.
