So not buying this. They have been losing people’s attention spans and so under the guise of messing with the meeting house internet, they have blocked all the fun. Church just got boring again.

GuestOur local leaders unplug the wireless routers in our building during stake conference. I consider it to be a true test of my Christian faith… not doing to local leaders what my heart, mind, body, and soul are all urging me to do to them. :angel: Edit:
Myspace? Next thing you know they’ll block all links to the dancing baby and all your base…

GuestI suggest quietly setting up a hotspot in the back of the chapel and Sunday School class every Sunday. You will soon be the most popular person in your ward. May 1, 2018 at 11:39 pm #328781Anonymous

I didn’t even know it still existed. Next they’ll pwn the vile Viking kittens.
Interesting that Youtube and Facebook aren’t on the list. Or World of Warcraft.
Time to go over to Steemit folks.
Trouble is most of us get all of these things cheap on our cellphones anyway. Or can use proxy sites to avoid it.

GuestUmm dande – Do you mind? I was keeping the porn sites under wraps. Now you’ve gone and pointed it out. That will go next. There will be nothing left to do.

GuestSolid move, except for those who are bored to tears.
As is the case with most things, this is no big deal in wards with spiritual meetings and a bigger deal in those without spiritual meetings. Leadership roulette is real.

GuestAnyone else find it odd that Facebook is not on that list? They also don’t mention Reddit and YouTube, which were already blocked.
May 2, 2018 at 12:28 pm #328786Anonymous
GuestThey already block lots of stuff. This list is likely in addition to the things that they already block. Kinda weird that they announced a list of sites that they’re adding to their filter. Usually you’d just find out it was blocked the next time you tried to access the site and that would serve as the announcement.

GuestThis is what 4G LTE is for. I have excellent cell service in every building in our stake. That said, these aren’t the things I’m usually doing on my tablet/phone anyway. If I’m bored or disagreeing with a talk in SM I’m usually on the Gospel Library app or LDS.org (really). I sometimes hit this site in SS or PH. Actually what I’ve always found odd is that Youtube is blocked. The church has a Youtube channel and almost all of the church videos are on Youtube. I watch GC on Youtube. Yet, it’s blocked at church.
(And, yes, porn sites are blocked. The general filter hits those. Not that I know from first hand experience, however.
)

(I love that meme!)Reddit and Snapchat are interesting omissions (although aren’t Instagram and Pinterest kind of similar?
Porn sites? I’d imagine they’re blocked – the major ones anyway. Not that I have *ever* attempted to look at them in church.
There is a running theme here, I see three categories:
* Social media.
* Film streaming.
* Music streaming.

You are bragging! My chapel is only able to get a “home” grade Internet connection, so when more than 1 ward is there, it essentially stops working. And just to make things worse, it is an ATT dead spot (the ATT store about 1/4 mile away is also a dead spot – the irony). But I do download some Kindle books as a backup.May 2, 2018 at 2:21 pm #328790Anonymous
GuestI put on Pandora on church music while I subbing in the nursery because I think music is helpful for the kiddos, but I hate Primary Music (OK – I hate nursery level chanting annoying pre-school music. There are some good Primary songs out there usually for older kids. 2 out of the 3 girls do not care about music either way, based on my observation. My daughter LOVES music, but seems to get distracted by all the new shiny toys to eat/attempt to destroy in the nursery setting, so usually doesn’t try to sing along…) Actually, I might put together a church music on Amazon Music and go from there

However, I do have CD’s of church appropriate music that I can stick in the nursery CD player [true story].

Actually LH our chapel is like that as well – and it’s the stake center. We have the best we can get but it is still designed for home use and when lots of users are on it does slow down. That’s why if I’m planning to use a video I download it to my laptop/tablet and don’t depend on the wifi in class. I have AT&T as well, but even Sprint gets good service at our building (not so much some of the other more remote buildings). Interesting side note I have only just thought about/realized – 4 of our 7 buildings are less than 1/4 mile from the interstate (as the crow flies).

I use Pandora church music as well, but at home. There’s some good stuff on there. I don’t see tons of people with earbuds (none really) listening to stuff at church, so Pandora and the other music ones are interesting ones to block. Maybe it’s a bigger problem elsewhere.
