    Heber,

    I like that quote… & believe it.

Sam, Consider Victor Frankl’s “Man’s search for meaning” – or other writings by Holocaust survivers.

I do not believe we are capable of unconditional love, nor unconditional physical peace…

Yet, maybe we’re capable of unconditional spiritual peace – though I’m not sure.

“The peace of God, that passeth all understanding..” Phil 4:7

Yeah, Sam – and it also underestimates the influence of internal things we can’t control until we understand them. Chemical imbalances are a prime example, but I am convinced we know FAR less about what makes us tick than we like to think.

Luckily, Mormon theology accounts for that, even if we mortals do a generally lousy job of recognizing it within our theology.

    I agree, Ray!

We like to think that we have a good handle on everything – it makes us feel more powerful… & at peace.

But the reality is that we don’t know much compared to what there is to know.

I believe that our salvation – our happiness & well being is dependent on becoming more aware.

I believe sin is incorrect thoughts, which produce harmful feelings & actions (even physiologically).

    Repentance is correcting those thoughts.

Evil is not so much imperfection or sin as much as the refusal to aknowledge sin.

Like the 2 thieves cruicified by Jesus symbolize our choices… one refused to aknowledge sin, but the other aknowledged it… The latter, Jesus said would be with him in paradise.

Freud said that the goal of therapy is to make the unconscious conscious.

The more we are aware, the more “knowing” & Godlike we become, (God is love & “all knowing”) & the more effectively loving we can be.

Yet, it dosn’t happen over night, nor is it a peaceful process. It’s written that Jesus was aqainted with grief. I wonder if one can have grief & peace simultaneously.

We can’t handle too much of the truth at once… we need line upon line… & some coping illusions to help us through & give us a sense of peace, especially when confronted with stressful truth.
