GuestPerfection is something we all strive for – it is something that is ingrained in us from a young age. Lets take an example that is outside of the church.
You could have a small boy (or girl) who looks up to their parent (in this case father) in something like football
Now that father may have had many years of experience – played for a Weekend team – and is really good, the young boy strives to be as good as or better than his father
Now – lets bring it into church. We have the new member who sees all this “goodness” around them and naturally wants that for themselves
The perfect families smiling and happy. The missionarries so knowledgeable of the gospel
At stake conference – listening to the wise words of the local leaders
At the first time going to general conference – at their local meeting house to show it and see these amazing men and women talking of their experiences.
We all want that for ourselves. Happiness – and the amazing things that come from it
What I sometimes wonder for myself is – why!
I guess maybe this is part of my problem
I am not perfect – my marriage is not the “perfect” marriage. But its good. I am very happy being with my wife.
I think that sometimes – like on a Sunday at chuch. We get the “best side” of people in that small photograph of their life
And maybe everyone – myself included – could do with remembering that –
there is a prayer used in a lot of circles that goes
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change
Courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference”
I know its not opened or closed in the typical LDS format of prayers
But it still does the job!

GuestI apologize for once more posting to other things I’ve written elsewhere, but it’s easier than the alternative. I wrote two things that immediately came to mind when I read this post. One deals with our facades at church, and the other one deals with how we define perfection. Here are the links, in that order:
