GuestI’d like to start a discussion of some of the points and coping ideas raised in Patrick Mason’s book Planted. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. It’s not perfect, but IMO it’s the best of its kind so far. I’ll post some excerpts by chapter for discussion in the coming weeks. Who’s interested?

GuestI’m interested! (Need to get my loaned copy back, but can do that soon.) February 29, 2016 at 3:26 pm #309585Anonymous
GuestI am in. I was just about to start on Armand Mauss’ “The Angel and the Beehive”, but I only did the intro yesterday. So I will move up “Planted”, but I probably can’t get started until this weekend. I remember Jana Riess did something like this with Givens’ “The Crucible of Faith”, but like Ann – I loaned that book out. I still want to go look at the comments/discussion that went on there.
So Hawkgrrrl – what is the “pace” or timeline? Are you thinking just this thread for all comments, or one per chapter so nobody accidentally gets any spoilers?

I still keep wondering if the title is a metaphor for a beautiful thing growing out of a mixture of dirt and manure. Andybody that has watched The Martian can appreciate that analogy.

GuestI would like to participate. I don’t have the book yet, but this is a good reason for me to get it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

GuestI have started it today. Given we have stake conference tomorrow I might actually finish it tomorrow. I am taking a few notes. So far it is good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

GuestI just ordered the book from Amazon and have started reading the Kindle version. I just started the Introduction, but I like it so far! Mason’s description of those who feel “switched off” or “squeezed out” seems like he is describing me! I may not finish the book today like LH, but I’m looking forward to reading it. GuestI’ll do a post per chapter periodically, so we can sort of reduce the number of “spoilers” although it’s not exactly a spoiler kind of book. March 7, 2016 at 3:24 pm #309590Anonymous
GuestI would like to discuss this book. Having Excerpts might also help to focus the discussion…that is a good idea. -
