GuestOkay so I’m actually talking about the endless political chatter in church and Dear God Please Make It Stop. Every third talk is political dog-whistling. So are most conversations in the hall (see disclaimers). Some teachers are non-stop party editorials. I genuinely can not keep doing this. I don’t care what anyone’s affiliation is because it’s
freaking Sunday. If my ward building isn’t going to be a sanctuary from the world, I should be somewhere else.
disclaimer: We haven’t had IRL sacrament since the Spring but it was bad then. It’s going to be worse when we start up again. For my own safety, I may stay away while politics reigns.
another disclaimer: After my father in law talked with the bishopric, they mostly shut off the partisan-signalling from the pulpit. I am grateful for their sincere efforts. However, this hasn’t slowed down the other speakers and I now realize it’s not going to.
one more: God bless our missionaries for not taking part in this. As ever, it’s the youthiest of us that is setting the example.

GuestI’m fortunate to live in a ward where this is not a huge problem, but I know in many wards and with some individuals it is an issuse. I also think my ears is blessed with some elder statesmen who are not afraid to speak up if the topic seems to be moving toward one side. That said, we are still in the limited attendance SM phase with 30 minute meetings and no other live meetings. There are Zoom meetings for SS and PH I don’t participate in. I may be blissfully ignorant of what might be happening now. I hope I get to remain so.

GuestI think the most frustrating thing is that there are some people who regularly drag political issues into church, and would be the first to complain if I did. Most people keep politics out, thankfully.

GuestI think my ward is better than some at this. However, It does seem like it is acceptable to talk about certain political issues (SSM) and assume that everyone in the congregation is on the same page.
