Guest50 more cents from me. I believe the ad-nauseum quote comes from Benson’s book, “God, Family, Country.” He wrote it when he was a GA. Not yet the prophet. But we luuuve to take any statement from a prophet, even if he said it when he was 8, and make it cannon. My guess is, if Benson saw this election he would change his quote. I just spent the week with my conservative TBM family. My orthodox brother and daughter are voting for Hillary. In their minds the lesser of 2 evils. My Dad and brother in law are going for Trump. You see Hillary to them is the biggest evil. My mother, the president of her local Republican Woman’s group, is doing a write in. She is even appalled by her own party. My mom has often relied on Benson for her politics. Because of that she voted for McCain. I find the division among my family incredibly fascinating. For years they have been in lock step.
Outside of the LDS world view, I find myself drawn to the face book group Historians on Donald Trump. I trust historians perspectives. I don’t even always share their opinions but if I group of them are concerned enough to put together a face book group, I begin to consider them a valuable resource.
I do not believe a president alone can ruin the nation. I am not even sure they cripple it. But I do believe they change the world. The world is already roiling in its own struggle and don’t want to add to it.

I think the takeaway is that god will be pissed no matter what we do.
Or my God will be pissed unless you do what I do.Rameumptums:
Quote:17 But thou art the same yesterday, today, and forever; and thou hast elected us that we shall be saved, whilst all around us are elected to be cast by thy wrath down to hell; for the which holiness, O God, we thank thee; …
18 And again we thank thee, O God, that we are a chosen and a holy people. Amen.

That is interesting to see divisions. Even the republican party is dividing because of this.
Is it possible Trump drops out and Romney comes in to save it, like he did the Olympics?

Agreed. Well said.
It is why it matters…it does change things. I am not sure it can be allowed to break. Which is why groups have to speak up and make the rhetoric motivate masses to do something. They fight for their cause because it can matter. How much, we dont’ know…but it doesn’t seem prudent to just not do anything or not care at all.

Yesterday I read a great line, “History is not inevitable.” When I let that thought sink in it gave me hope. Having a voice, even if it’s only in the ballot box, is important to me. I don’t want to wait on inevitable.

…Which side does God fight for? Which foe does God vanquish?
My guess is he watches from afar. Like the temple ceremony…he’ll get reports or updates from people on how things are going in the world, and tell them what to go help us with. Very detached-like. Lots of delays in reacting to things.Maybe he doesn’t care who is President, but what our hearts were like as we voted and handled the opposition.
Maybe he doesn’t care who wins a war, but how we fought and why we fought.
Maybe he doesn’t care which football team wins, but how we tried and how we played.
Maybe he doesn’t care if we get divorced or stay married, just how we thought through things and how we conducted ourselves through the choices.
Maybe he doesn’t care if the Brother of Jared wants rocks touched to light the barges, or some other idea…just wants us to figure things out.
Maybe he doesn’t care about stuff…he just cares about us. We just want him to care about what we care about. And sometimes he doesn’t.
…see? Talking politics can be good

GuestThe person that ultimately wins the election won’t be the one to ruin the nation. If the nation ends up in ruins it will be because of how we, the actual nation, react after the election. People like to point the finger outward. I’m doing it now.

GuestTrump is making it easier and easier to just see that he is unfit for the office. Bummer. I think a stiff could be Hillary…Trump is worse than a stiff. He is my Noperer. Did anyone catch the Libertarian Town Hall Meeting? Thoughts? Utah was mentioned.

GuestTrump wrote:“Actually, I was only kidding, you can get the baby out of here,” the Republican nominee said to laughter and applause. “That’s all right. Don’t worry. I, I think she really believed me that I love having a baby crying while I’m speaking. That’s OK. People don’t understand. That’s OK.”
I just shake my head.

GuestYou know… if the state of Utah ends up voting Trump I’m going to use that line in my next SM talk. Get the baby out of here. That’s all right. Don’t worry. Do you think I love having a baby crying while I’m speaking? That’s OK. People don’t understand. That’s OK.

Happens to me all the time, particularly in one ward. I don’t have the option of asking for the baby to leave.

GuestThe Harvard Republican club has endorsed every Republican candidate for the last 128 years – until now. They just refused to endorse Trump. I never thought that would happen, certainly not in my lifetime. I read an insightful piece by Charles Krauthammer about Trump. Krauthammer not only is a conservative, he also is a licensed psychiatrist. My main concerns are Trump’s almost unparalleled narcissism and his incredibly thin skin. If normal people can cause him to lash out by simply insulting him or speaking of their disagreement, seasoned politicians (like Putin, who, I believe, is already using him) will have a field day.
Here is the article by Krauthammer:

GuestGood article. Here is another good one…
http://www.wsj.com/articles/the-week-they-decided-he-was-crazy-1470354031 ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://www.wsj.com/articles/the-week-they-decided-he-was-crazy-1470354031 One quote from it…
Quote:This is what became obvious, probably fatally so: Mr. Trump is not going to get serious about running for president. He does not have a second act, there are no hidden depths, there will be no “pivot.” It is not that he is willful or stubborn, though he may be, it’s that he doesn’t have the skill set needed now—discretion, carefulness, generosity, judgment. There’s a clueless quality about him. It’s not that he doesn’t get advice; it’s that he can’t hear advice, can’t process it or turn it into action.
