GuestI have two thoughts about Romney as Secretary of State: 1) if you ask me, that’s a FAR better job than POTUS, and 2) yes I think he’s motivated to “take one for the country” by working with someone like Trump. The best of a bad situation. I see a world of difference between trying to prevent Trump from getting elected, and being willing to do the right thing for the country while losing face. But man, Trump really put the screws to him. It was hard to read his retraction. It made me want to throw up. December 2, 2016 at 4:06 pm #313525Anonymous

time will tell…but if he is including those who spoke out against him as well as rewarding those that supported him…then he seems to be searching for those that are best able to do the job. I’m sure the main motivation for him is to look like a good president and establish a legacy. It all comes back to him and his ego. But…I’m not hating his cabinet picks so far. Sarah Palin?…ok wait…I spoke too soon

I think that was what surprised me…because Romney could have just stayed in his mansion…and played with the grandkids. Going to dinner with Trump and making a speech was unexpected, and unnecessary…but perhaps it is the right thing to do and can help do things to improve the economy and our place on the world stage.Trump is kind of putting the screws to China big time. I think his non-conventional approach could be an advantage in making uncertainty cause them to show their hand. China has their issues…perhaps the timing happens to be lucky enough trump can shake them…and US companies benefit from better trade practice.
What if Trump becomes the perfect person for this job at this time, A real unlikeable guy…but the very thing needed to shake things up and make change? Perhaps the constitution isn’t hanging by a thread and needing our prophets to save the world. Perhaps life rolls on for decades and the mormon narratives and prophecies are all made up and stabs in the dark of not knowing what reality will produce. Maybe Christ isn’t coming back to scorch the earth. Perhaps we have millennia to progress as a species.
Maybe our future is more gonna look like Gene Roddenberry’s visions than Joseph Smith’s?
All of those thoughts to me come from a place of being open to the future…and if I dont’ think there are just a few decades left until Heavenly Father and Mother ran out of spirits to send to earth…then Trump is a blip in the history. 4 years to be interesting…but nothing in the realm of the end of the world talk.

per CNN
My feeling…Romney is eating crow to try to show people we should heal and move forward, without hate and protests…we can be great and lead the world…this is our strength and resilience despite the leaders that get elected…we survive. That’s my guess on Romney’s actions. We have a great country and freedoms to voice our concerns and opnions, but then there gets to be a point you move forward and work. Romney is leading by stepping back. God, I wish
hewas President. December 3, 2016 at 1:09 am #313527Anonymous

GuestLooks like MoTab just got their p***y grabbed. OK, I get what some are saying, that MoTab has performed for every president (although only been invited to sing at Inaugurations for GOP candidates – gee, I wonder why). And they are saying MoTab sings at every inauguration they are invited to sing at. But doesn’t the church see that they are likely Trump’s 128th choice and that it’s been a huge joke that nobody wants to sing at his inauguration because he’s appointed white supremacists to his cabinet and continually proven himself utterly unqualified at every turn? It just looks like the church is gullible and doesn’t stand for anything. Being willing to sing for literally ANYONE who asks them isn’t evidence of discrimination. This looks to me like evidence that it isn’t true that there’s no such thing as bad press. The only way to make it worse is if they sing Dixieland or that song “White” that got yanked from the youth program.

Guestso what do you all think? Is Trump as scary as he sounded during the campaign? Is he going to be a Hitler? December 31, 2016 at 1:32 pm #313534Anonymous

I think Trump has moderated himself (or has been moderated) since the election. The sun will still rise on January 21. Most of what Trump said he would do he can’t do without Congress. I am no Trump fan, but frankly I’m tired of the rhetoric on both sides and the fear mongering.

GuestWe shall see. Much of what he says and promises to do still scares me, deeply in some cases, but we shall see.
Hitler? I doubt it – but nobody thought Hitler would be Hitler at the time.

GuestIt isn’t Trump (or Trump alone) that scares me. It’s the tide behind him. The sources that feed him and influence him that scare me. Hitler – possibly not, but there are many ways to cause chaos, destruction, division. That’s what scares me.
We have been deeply divided since Saddam Hussein. With every continual turn the division grows deeper. Presently very far right individuals have the floor.
Yet we may need the division to heal again. That’s the part I can’t sense yet. I actually worry for all of us. Much like a cold war, we may not see the destruction until we are in too deep.
I so hope I am wrong. I hope his lackluster skill will be an unseen ballast in the next four years. Only time will tell.

me too. Because i think that is what Trump did…read the pulse of things and to get power, figured ways to hit the hot buttons needed to propel him to power. My hope is there are enough checks and balances in place that things can go right and left but never out of bounds.

This is my hope – and belief – as well. I do trust the Constitution and the wisdom of the Founding Fathers and I trust that we have learned from our history.
