Hasn’t it been proven by demographic analysis that polygyny does NOT actually increase the population of the group? More offspring for the men with multiple fertile wives, of course, but fewer posturing overall. (I think I read that on W&T.)

I had read that as well Joni. It is my understanding that monogamy tends to create more population growth than polygamy.

I also find it interesting that according to this rationale the normal monogamy standard was suspended because the world was coming to an end. We only had a very limited time to seal everyone together and start having kids and that is why it was permitted for this almost emergency situation. We were a millennial church that later taught that one should flee to the Utah desert because the cities of the east were going to be destroyed by God’s wrath. The end of the world did not come and we are no longer a church that is anxiously looking for it to end.
