I definitely think these shows portray an inaccurate idea of Mormonism. Most Mormons aren’t polygamists, and the view Hawkgrrl gives above is not an unusual one amongst us. However, as I say the modern west does have a double standard here.
In Sister Wives they do make it clear that they are not mainstream Mormons. They also talk against Warren Jeffs and his kind of polygamy. But non-Mormon viewers might not notice the differences.
